Player Valuation: £15m
Well, it looks like the RS have given Raul Meireles the shaft. They have allegedly reneged on an agreement regarding his contract.

I happen to think he's a quality player who would add something to our team. He's also very popular with the RS fans who will be saddened to see him go.

I have no problem signing players from the RS. I am old enough to remember the likes of Sheedy, Harper, Watson and a host of others who came here and played their hearts out for us.

Not only would it p the RS fans off if he came to us, it would be good for him too as their would be no domestic upheavals involved.

Raul Meireles, like a lot of 'em, thrives on confidence. He had a purple patch last season when he seemed unstoppable. Don't you think he's better than some of the targets we have been linked with?

I rate him but he can be very inconsistent and they would want top dollar, we have as good if not better and we need wide players - we dont need him.

Yes mate, I think he is a cracking player. Has a good graft on him, and a shot. Reminds me of Mikel to a degree

He's a quality player. Took a bit of time to adjust to the Prem, but helped the RS's revival that ended up with them finishing above us.

Get Meireles on!!

Can't believe they're letting him go to be honest. I thought he was their best player in the second half of the season. Would be great in our team but can't see it happening.

It's strange they could let him go to be fair.

He's a better and more influential player than Henderson they've bought and all of their midfield bar gbh.

If they think Charlie Adam will be better they'll be in for a shock I think.

An excellent player, was gutted when he signed for them, think its a massive mistake they are getting rid of him. As for him coming here, few problems with that.

1) We don't have any money.
2) He'd never come to us and unneccessarily upset Liverpool fans unless we were a career step up or at least on a level, which we are not.
3) For betraying his club he'd expect premium wages, the wages he is currently on would probably make him our best paid player anyway, and he'd want more.
4) Liverpool are under no pressure to sell, they are demanding in the region of £15m from Juve and Inter. To sell to us, they'd demand closer to £20m, which is more than we'd get for either Rodwell or Fellaini (presuming both would be sold) we'd have to spend 2/3 of our potential transfer budget on a feutile bid for a player who's a little out of our range.
5) We don't have any money.

I love the ambition though, we should fax them a cheeky bid and make it public, just to wind them up.

He looked good amongst a very average midfield. Amongst Fellaini, Arteta etc his lack of real class would show.

Thank you for your positive intelligent responses. As this is the first time I have started a thread I expected to get a savage beating. :D

I highly rate Meireles, in terms of fitting in to tactical game plan, he is perfect and his technique and intelligence in games can become priceless, if there was any chance of us getting him i'd like to think the board would act on it after we sell a couple of players.

Not a chance of him coming to us, though I do think he is a cracking player, firstly there will be better teams after him who have european ambitions, and probably the biggest stumbling block would be he would actually cost a few bob, something we don't have.
