Raul Meireles

The sole reason they finished above us as far as I'm concerned. He was mint the second half of the season.

Really surprised by this TBH.

Don't think we need him though, we've got plenty similar.

Whilst i dont think middle of the park is our priority area, I think he has a bit more directness about him than we have in our midfield. He showed he can pick the ball up and head for goal - have a dig or link up in and around the box. Osman on occasion can do this but he's not consistent enough, though he had a good last third of the season.

Mereiles isn't top draw, but he's their best MF player now as GBH enters the twilight of his career.

I personally don't rate the lad at all. I wouldn't mind him in the squad but I don't really know what his games all about. He can shoot and thats all I've seen of him. Not good enough for me and I'm not suprised he's surplus over the park

Its baffling that they want to get rid of Meireles and replace him with Charlie Adam - but then this is the club that wanted to swap Alonso for Barry, so nothing should really surprise anyone.

I do like this nonsense in the Echo though, it reads like one of those medieval texts which conclusively proves the earth is flat.

:lol::lol:

That is classic yellow dog journalism from the Echo...they never fail to amaze me the way they bend the knee to the party line.

What a chuckle head - 'where does he fit in?' ...erm, ask Dalglish - he picked him every game you ****ing moron.

He didn't start out well but by the end of the season he was their best player. I doubt they'd sell to us, we can't afford the transfer fee and/or what he currently gets paid. Plus CM isn't really a priority. Heard Juve was looking at him.

I read the article in the Echo. The fawning towards Dalglish is hilarious. My fave bit was the poster calling Henderson 'Hendo'. The Krappite musta needed a lie-down after thinking that one up. :D

Certainly better than Poulsen and Spearing, not too sure about the others, I'd put them all on a similar level.

From what I've seen Aquilani is actually a really good player. I don't understand the fuss about Henderson or Adam, though. And Lucas, despite really improving, is still very limited for me.

Meireles is, in my opinion, a good player. Just not great. I don't see why we'd want him, anyway.

Agreed.

I'd have both Aquilani and Adam before him, to be honest. On there day they are much more expansive midfielders.

He's not a bad player, don't get me wrong, but he doesn't actually do anything really well. He's not going to break up play, he can't control a game to a high level and whilst he can create (usually from crossing, or set pieces) he's not going to cut teams open and really influence the game in the final third. His passing is about as expansive as players like Lucas and Fellaini and he's supposed to be alot more attack minded.

That's just not very impressive to me. Easily replaced...
