I do love taking a look through the various Everton Facebook pages. Huge amount of Internet warriors who are raging with anyone who says this hasn't been a brilliant transfer window. I guarantee these people will be the first to erupt with fury if we're struggling to hit the back of the net by late September.

5 - started off well but ended up disappointed.

The ability to score goals is often the key difference in positions both at the top of the table and the bottom. We lost a reliable scorer of them and, despite a beefed up central midfield and my high hopes for both DCL and Sandro long term, not sure how we'll replace let alone improve on Rom's contributions.

On the plus side Pickford and Keane look like they will do a good job in stopping the other side scoring but not convinced that will be enough.

I just find it difficult to sell your goal scorer and not even attempt to fill the void. I went with a 6 bc some decent players were brought in but not in the positions that needed it the most. Everton that.

Put 6 think we have got some decent players in, let down by not shifting on or two , and not getting cover at the back, totally nuts we havnt got a striker in after months of knowing we needed one.

6/10

An established striker would have made it 9/10 though.

Exactly my thoughts. I would have taken off even more if I thought it should have been easy to find a striker. In our current state I don't think many options were available. We're stuck in a middle area where the top strikers don't want to come here and the lesser strikers aren't really good enough to lead the front line for us.

Honestly? We've not majorly improved from last season. Solid 6/10, we still lack in alot of key areas and look slow as hell, struggling to score goals despite being hard to beat - like the old Moyes days. Milan last season were probably on par with us, now they're far better as their signings have majorly improved them. That's an example of a good window, ours is not. Pickford and Keane look really good, the rest need a bit more time to judge. Vlasic looks like a neat buy.

We've stockpiled on players for the middle of the pitch which is baffling. Severe lack of quality cover in alot of areas too. Appears as though we're in for a long, gruelling season, not the greatly exciting one many had hoped for.

The Window was a bit like the Man City game - started solidly and even had an exciting moment or two . We all thought we were home safe by the mid point. Then by the end we were disappointed. Many said a point before the game would have been great but by the end we still felt let down.
If you had told me before the window we would have signed the players we did I would have said that would be a great result but because of that last disappointment I feel so very dejected.

I went 7 but I may be slightly half glass full (as is my wont).
Sandro might adapt to being a very productive striker, and DCL will improve (]I think he's got potential)

The defence worries me though(bar Keane and Pickford) and EFC's neglect at addressing the shortcomings this window leave me a little nonplussed....if not slightly pissed off.

It started off with a bang.Signing all those players.But of course this is Everton.Those players were paid for in advance with the Lukaku money.No proper replacement for Lukaku signed despite having nearly a whole summer to sort it out.That just reeks of incompetence and doing things on the cheap.It seems after Giroud rejected us the genius himself Mr Walsh stumped.Things have changed at Everton but in many ways things have stayed the same.The fact that no proper replacement for Rom has been signed has undone everything for me.So it's a mediocre 6 out of 10 from me.

...that's an excellent analogy Charles

As an outsider, I actually think you guys did really well. The tendency is to have recency bias, and the fact that you didn't get a big signing in over the last couple of days has probably tainted the views of some.

At the end of the day, you lost Lukaku but upgraded:

GK --> Pickford
CB --> Keane
LW/AM --> Sigurdsson
AM --> Klaassen
AM/ST --> Rooney
RW/ST --> Sandro (I don't mean to say you guys upgraded ST because you went backwards, but just saying that Rooney and Sandro technically could play there)

You signed two good young prospects in Vlasic and Onyekuru, got some of your existing young defenders on loan at top Championship clubs (Pennington, Galloway, Browning), and got rid of some deadwood for 20m (Cleverley, Deulofeu, McGeady, Barry).

If you'd been able to coordinate some sort of swap deal between Barkley and Batshuayi it would have almost been a perfect window.

As it stands, you are light at left back (no clear alternative to Baines) and also down a quality striker who will bag ~20 goals (which Batshuayi may have done had he turned up).

Nevertheless, still think you guys did really well. Almost as good a window as the mighty Leeds have had!

Good post mate, lending a neutral's perspective as it does.
