To be fair ste, if we had signed Elm swiftly with no rumours linking him to other clubs, am sure you would still be saying we haven't signed anyone "of note" because if we are honest here, no one had heard of Elm a few weeks ago.
I had... but I'm a swede. :P

Sam? Sam? SAM?????
For [Poor language removed] sake, we could have jumped to 1985 or something. Why take me back to 2007 or 2008.
So, who am I?

I'm Kenwright? PAH.

I have because I watched the U21 European Championship, but I never expected we would be looking to sign the player.

As opposed to blaming the club for everything when you don't have a damn clue what is actually happening and why he hasn't signed for us.

Could be a mulitude of reasons but nope its always the clubs fault.

Chances are that if he doesn't come here its because he doesn't want to and there's bugger all we can do about that or we don't want him. Be it due to wages, attitude or whatever. Not because the people involved in the transfer are sitting around with their heads up the arses.

The club are the ones that conduct the business. Its fair to say a number of transfer "targets" in the past have all said the same thing "there was no follow up from Everton".

In the past it seems to more teams get involved, the more we back away. We dont have funds to be patient. Any meger bid we put in, any club can offer better.

Instead of going in, getting an answer, then come out, we go in, wait a bit, see what happens, then 5 teams all jump in and "enquire". Our "patient" approach comes across as not wanting the player enough. Look at Spurs and Naughton - they wanted him and Walker big time and got em, not by farting around but by giving a better offer, told em how it is, and bagged him. They never have any problems getting players they want.

Buy going in and getting a straight answer allows you to know where you go from there. He's the only winger/midfielder we're closely linked with and had/have a chance of signing. But by holding on, seeing what happens, with our limited funds, leaves the field open for other teams to come in a nab him. Then we'll moan that we cant compete financially.

That even comes down to wages too. To get the best players, you've got to pay the big wages. Its how football is nowdays.

In other words we make an offer and thats it. The player/other club either takes it or leaves it. If we dont get back to them its probably because we are no longer interested, not because Bill and Dave are off playing golf.

And more importantly unlike Spurs and other clubs we won't pay over valuation just to get a player in. We have our valuation of a players worth and thats it.

Yeah course it would be nice if we could stick another couple of million in to get someone but thats not how we work (and regardless of whether thats due to the fact we have very little money or not some possibly many would say its good business), you don't pay more for a product than you think its worth.

Good players come at a price. Or we can keep relying on the rabbit out of the hat players season after season and pray no other team are interested.

Teams pay over the odds for players they see as potential and really want, that's why they pay. We've done it. What's the difference from over paying for Fellaini than the odd 1 or 2mill extra for Rasmus?

And if he's not THAT good, why are we interested in the first place?

Like i said, we pay what we think the player is worth and wont go over that. Obviously we thought Fellaini was worth a price and Liege accepted that.

We think Elm is worth a price but his club won't accept that or he wont accept our personal terms and we wont go higher cause we don't have the money avaliable to do so.

And if thats happened we will of moved on, i fail to see what blame the club shoulders (other than the finance issue but thats a different thread and has been done to death) we have a transfer budget and are working within it .

But there could be many many reasons why Elm hasn't signed. But i aint gonna go around placing blame on people when i don't know the whole story.

The reason why he hasnt signed is because we havent put a bid in. And the more likely story will be is that we wont bother with the amount of interest that has built up over him.

Has happened before. Interest in a player, on he verge of it becoming something. Other teams are alerted and throw their hat in before any advance stages have begun. Gives the player and his team more food for thought rather than cutting down his options and going for the kill.

SIGN.HIM.NOW!

I know it's not that easy, but its over 2 weeks since he visited Everton wasn't it?? Hmm

If only it was as easy as FM

Rasmus Elm hjälte ? tack vare drömmål | Elfsborg | Allsvenskan | Sverige | Fotbollsbladet | Sportbladet | Aftonbladet

According to this intervju he says:

-I'm interested in taking the next step to evolve further

When asked when he will leave.

-I'm still waiting for the right offer to come, I don't want to do something halfhearted.

He also scored a beautiful goal in tonights game. Go to the link and check the first tv-clip to see it. A beauty..

I really hope that's because we haven't offered anything for him yet. How much do our Swedish posters think he'd be worth if he was British playing for a team of roughly equal financial standing to Kalmar?

I also hope the Lescott speculation isn't clouding our judgement on completing these squad prospect purchases. Delaying because we expect we'll have a bigger transfer pot soon?:dodgy:

Swedish newspapers think he's worth about the figure mentioned, but some persons posting on the internet sites think he's worth more since he's so good. But they basically don't realise that the swedish league is so poor internationally. But they do have a point that if Delph is offered £10M (or thereabout) then why isn't Elm worth more?

Elms kravlista på nya klubben | Kalmar | Allsvenskan | Sverige | Fotbollsbladet | Sportbladet | Aftonbladet

Elms demands on the new club:

1. Coach!

-I want to go to a club where I feel a big confidence from the coach. DAVID MOYES from Everton gave me a good impression.

Comment: Elm wants to feel backing from his coach and wants to know his role in the team. All of that the popular coach in Everton David Moyes showed him. Moyes have followed Elm closely and wants him in his teambuilding. That fact increases Evertons chance even though the club doesn't have the biggest wallet.

2. Challenge!

-I'm not closing the door to any league. But the PL is more interesting than the dutch.

Comment: Realistically the spanish league would fit Elm best. There the offensive game where technique goes before strength that is the norm for middle teams in the PL. Even Serie A in Italy would be good, but money in the italian league is much lower now than before. The dutch league is already to small for Elm.

3. The whole picture.

- That's important to me. Which City, which Coach, what country, the coach's role and the capacity of the team. The biggest club isn't necessarily the best for me.

Comment: If Elm had chosen the biggest club or done like others from the U-21 squad he would have chosen Bayern Munich. Even Fulham showed an early interest, but got turned down last winter. If it doesn't feel right, he prefers to wait. But with high probability he will belong to a club in one of the bigger leagues before the transfer window closes this August.

Come on Moyes! You did a good impression on him, so come in with a good offer for him and he might very well sign for us! If we're still interested in him of course.
