We aren't the 5,000 year defending league champs mate.

Right, I get it now. You don't actually make points, or have any interest in discussing things. You're just a wind up merchant. being new to the forum, it takes time to find out who likes to discuss things seriously, and who is best ignored. ;)

If it's only a pub league, how come Burnley didn't totally destroy Aberdeen?

As for Thursday, do you think it would have been fair if someone had described the EPL as a pub league, after they watched the two Atalanta - Everton games?

Salzburg are a decent team. They may not be great, but they're decent enough. They reached the Europa League semi-final last season, losing in extra time to Marseille.
As a rangers fan i have to say your right, saltzburg are a good side

I like Scottish football , I’ll watch it on telly and in the grounds when I’m up there but the standard isn't the best . The atmosphere in some of games can be absolutely fantastic , others obviously less so but it’s something I enjoy . however let’s not kid ourselves on what we’re watching . No Burnley didn’t batter Aberdeen , they did however knock them out . Arsenal struggled to beat ostersunds as well so I presume they’re another top side playing in a top league ?

Let’s look at goal scorers, in the last two years the top scorers are a 35 year old and a bloke to left for the bright lights of Burton Albion . I know there were other factors at play but moult left for Preston and Adam Rooney for non-league Salford city .

Celtic and Rangers get huge crowds , this year with hibs and hearts looking to be consistent and Aberdeen sure to be competitive we might well see an enthralling season and I’d love that but it is what it is . I’m not being insulting it’s just a reality surely , if that offends then I’m genuinely sorry but if you tell me City are a better side than Everton I can’t really argue can I ?

At no stage have I said Scottish football is remotely as good as the EPL.

Some of the more ignorant English supporters simply dismiss it as a pub league. If it were pub standard, Burnley would have won by 20, or more, goals. There have been a few people who have came to Scotland thinking it was absolutely [Poor language removed] and they, or the players they signed, would run riot, and ended up leaving the country with their tails between their legs. Joey Barton being a prime example.

The Rooney thing really hasn't got anything to do with it. That was down to money. If an English premiership player left here to play in the Chinese second division, because he was getting loads of cash, would that reflect badly on the EPL? Of course it wouldn't, it would simply be a professional football going to a place he normally wouldn't have gone, but money swung it for him.

To, to sum up, of course the standard of Scottish football isn't comparable with the EPL, but it's not as bad as some people think, and it's most certainly not a pub league, despite what the odd ignoramus might tell you.

Which is why I said other factors are at play . You don’t think it’s illustrative that a number of the top scorers in recent years find themselves in the championship and not at the big boys . I’ve not said it’s a pub league but a lot of sides in the league would find themselves struggling in the championship and maybe a couple in league one .

The problem is that some people only watch the EPL which of course is full of quality players who are attracted by the money involved, so by comparison everything below that standard is disparaged. It's the same with the 2 leagues in Ireland. But for the supporters of the clubs who are in these leagues the passion is the same even though the standard of football isn't.

I know you haven't, but some people have. ;)

I said of course the standard of Scottish football isn't comparable with the EPL, it's not anywhere near being a top league, but it's not quite as bad as some people think.

That's correct, Mark. Even then, it's not a fair comparison, as the TV companies have warped football to the extent teams like Bournemouth can bid 25 million pounds for a left back, and offer him a reported 70 grand a week.

I remember reading a few years ago Daley Blind saying Ajax couldn't compete with clubs from the English Championship. Ajax are one of the most famous clubs in the world, yet TV money has meant even second tier English clubs can blow them out off the water.

I wouldn't mind so much if Sky gave non English viewers a discount, for the fact they're ruining their countries football. :)
