...I went the Old Firm game at Ibrox a few months ago and the bigotry is unashamed and obvious. I dare say it’s found in equal measures at Celtic.

Growing up in 60s Liverpool, there were Catholic and Protestant strongholds in the City and the Orange Lodge was prevelant but thankfully that has became diluted over time and is no longer an issue. Not sure if there’s much chance of that happening in Glasgow, not sure if it’s as bad now as it was 20 years ago.

Disgraceful behaviour.

Things will never start getting better until both sides of the divide can the whataboutery and start taking responsibility for their actions

You've seen it in here already with Cork talking about Clarke having double standards

Until both sides of the Old Firm grow up and say "ALL of this is wrong and we have to get our OWN houses in order without always deflecting about how the other side is worse", then this will sadly continue

....but I dare say this isn’t just about sectarianism in Football, it’s about sectarianism in a City. The culture in the City needs to change.

Don't condemn it and then throw in an 'although', the same Steve Clark had plenty to say when Kris Boyd was pelted with coins from Celtic fans last week, so why has he got double standards this week?
There is no excuse for sectarian abuse full stop no matter which team it comes from or who it is aimed at you seem to have a chip on your shoulder regarding Steve Clark you've even mentioned on another thread for no good reason the fact he played for Chelsea and they are a 'right wing club' what the hell has that got to do with him being subject to sectarian abuse?

It’s mad you have to write it especially on 2019 but I think sectarian abuse is clearly unacceptable, Clarke is also a decent manager whose done a fantastic job at Kilmarnock. as someone who takes an interest in Scottish footy stand out manager of the last year and I really like him even despite his RS links , in fact that doesn’t come to mind which is credit to Clarke .

Having said all that and agreeing with you that he had a go over the Celtic fans over the coin throwing why didn’t he seem to mention the sectarian abuse Boyd suffered ? Now I’m not in Scotland and I’m not involved in any discussions on its football other than here so my only reference point is written media and tv and radio coverage (sometimes podcast or live ) but I didn’t hear him talk about Boyd’s abuse . It’s entirely possible he did but if he did it wasn’t to this extent or it wasn’t covered and if sectarianism is your issue the press conference airing your opinion on sectarian abuse would have seemed the perfect opportunity to bring it up . If he did mentioned the abuse Boyd suffered , being called an “orange .....” then obviously most of not all of this post is completely irrelevant. Also let’s be frank the failure to talk about by Boyd in no way mitigates what happened to him .

I’m not interested in anyway in getting into whataboutery , I hope you don’t see that in me , but if it’s an issue by not mentioning something that happened with one of your players three days ago it’s leaves you open to the kind of tribalism that flourishes in Glasgow football and leads to exactly this kind of ridiculous abuse .

Without wanting my post to fall into it this is what I wanted to say , I was trying to say that perhaps through no fault of his own Clarke panders to this mindset .

Both sides protest about songs the others sing but defend theirs , it’s ridiculous and it’s something the game needs to leave behind . If Clarke raising the point helps then great but the manner in which it’s happened I suspect will push everyone further apart

Are you actually trying to tell me, people in Scotland still fight over a church? And it's during football games?
You can take it that those involved are not regular church goers.

It's not really about religion per se. It's a cultural thing. Having denominational schooling doesn't help. In fact that's prolonged and encouraged the divide in Scotland.

...there are some enclaves. I was based in St Martin’s House (bit further down opposite the Merton) for a few years not so long ago and the Lodge would still march from that area on 12th.

In my book ignore is ignore,if I was to put someone on ignore (which I would consider childish) then I would totally ignore them not have a sneaky peak now and then, what the hell would be the point in the ignore button? You informed me very publicly you were placing me on ignore then stated very publicly that within minutes you're using the show ignored content button, I think this tells everyone all they really need to know about you.
Stop sending me unsolicited PM's informing me I'm on ignore and then reading my content

Beam me up Scotty.
I agree. Putting people on ignore is just an admission that you’ve lost the argument.
