Raheem Sterling

There's a black guy in the stands right in front of Sterling what on earth must he be thinking right in the thick of it? I have never got my head around the likes of Chelsea fans, who have their fair share of black players, hurling racist abuse, I just don't get that mentality.

Because I live in Scotland these days I tend to get tickets where I can around Goodison, I've been in most parts of the ground in recent years and haven't heard any racist remarks from our fans for probably about 15 years.

I have though been going to matches since the late sixties and heard plenty hurled from the Goodison terraces, bear in mind the Gwladys street in those days the bulk of the terracing was probably 13-18 year olds and there was very much a 'follow the leader' attitude, I'm sure there are plenty who regret now what was shouted at the time.

Let's not forget their very own John Terry hurling the very same racist abuse at Anton Ferdinand he should have received so much more than what he was given, and there was still a clammer to get him back in the England squad from some quarters WTF.

Personally speaking it gladdens my heart that when you look around you within Goodison these days and there are people from so many different racial backgrounds all merely supporting our team together.Unlike the past I really don't see any problems at our club these days perhaps others can tell me different.

Personally I think Sterling is a decent footballer, I don't like the way he conducted himself in the past but hey he's 24 now and perhaps he's growing up a little and maybe on this subject deserves listening to.

I hope the perpetrators in the video clip are named and shamed and get what they deserve.

He's right. Everything he does gets crapped on by the press. He can't win whatever he does, and there are white players who behave far, far worse.

The Chelsea supporters in my stepfamily are nice, but that club attract some vile people, as do West Ham. These are people who'd probably call James McClean a traitor for not wearing a poppy, yet do Nazi salutes and sing songs about Auschwitz at Spurs matches, even though the squad and Pochettino are goyim.

And a black guy scored their first goal too. Idiots.

I still believe the embedded RS in the media have a bee in their bonnet about Sterling and will jump on owt they can to traduce him.

I did say that

My only issue is like many things isn’t whataboutery it’s context , I’m old enough to remember issues at goodison but also at most grounds in the country . We weren’t great that’s for sure and it’s indefensible and I can remember specific examples, it was embarrassing then and it’s even worse in hindsight . Also the treatment Barnes got for England was nothing short of sickening , I’ll not sugar coat it .

It’s just seems strange talking about racism that Barnes wouldn’t mention the vicious abuse his own supporters gave him . Allow The last discussions I remember involving Barnes on race was him condemning the Suárez “witch-hunt “ so perhaps it’s not a huge surprise .

It's disappointing if Barnes failed to mention his own fans (as indicated he may have, but it may have in the course of a broader interview but it was edited out. Unlikely though). The context was that he called us out for being the worst he encountered. But as you're well aware, we are by no means alone.

Moving on from them, it's ultimately sad that such behaviour hasn't been stamped out. Indeed, it's arguably just been redirected (Brexit) and certain folk are now emboldened to start to act up again and fall back on old tropes.

Just don't get what makes grown adults vent such vile abuse, racial or otherwise, at a another person just a few feet away. They need to attend an anger management course at the very least.

Well done Sterling for not reacting immediately and then pointing out the institutional nature of it in the print media.

I was thinking the same, the age of one of them was at least late 50s.

Is that bespectacled fellow calling him an “ effing black c**t”?
Yes he is , 100%. The other too are being abusive without the racial content in my opinion. Extreme left says something I can't get then " now f G&£@ off you w£&£@£"
Middle one I have not made my mind up on yet.
Edit, had another look t middle one. The first couple of words I can't get but I think he finishes with " eff you you're sh£&@"

I’ve never understood why “adults” stand there and scream obscenities (racist or otherwise) at someone bc they play for another team. That was something I did as a 15 year old bc I thought it was just what you did. That was 20 years ago and now I realize how ridiculous you look.
I just think you look like a dolt with two fingers in the air screaming in someone’s face

Fair play to him. A timely point well made.

Whilst watching the game that moment looked off, I was thinking what scumbags.....and wasn't surprised to read this today. The guy on the right seems to be clearly shouting something racist.

Kev Campbell having a go at Piers Morgan on twitter over this. Raheem is a good lad and the stuff he's gotten in the media has always been out of order. Him being black has certainly played a part and it's ridiculous that it all started because he wanted to leave the RS to make more money and play for a better team.

In the 80's I heard some horrific stuff at Goodison as a kid.
One stuck in my mind.
Aimed at Remi Moses who played for United.
"F off Moses, you're not even a proper N"
Incredible thinking about it now.
