Raheem Sterling

What are you even talking about here? WTF has that got to do with anything. My original post was a genuine question to people on why things like racism, anti-semitism, misogny and homophobia are rife in football in England/UK, and I got comments by people who seem baffled. It's not even been a week and the 2 of the 4 themes I mentioned, had fresh cases.

Now, you have seem to deciphered my username and conflated it to laws of Saudi Arabia, which is a country I have ZERO connections with. That post that reinforces the idea of my original post, again now. Football in UK just seems to attract the worst of the bunch.
it was probably that you gave the impression that other sports are completely free of these issues, and existing in some beautiful utopia while such stigma exists only in football. If the discussion ends with the issues in football nothing is solved

Well do you not think other sports are much better off? Do you genuinely think you would be hearing racist or antisemitism chanting happening at the Wimbledon, a rugby, F1 match? Try to be as objective as you can while you think of this. Has there ever been incidents with rugby fans chanting racist abuse?

My suggested explanation for all this is that football is a sport followed and watched by the working class, who lack education. So to put into context here, these Chelsea fans are not educated enough to understand what Auschwitz was all about. This is just one basic example.

Football is by far the most tribal of those sports and by the most emotive, if there is racism or anything else it will be more overt than in other sports, but to think it doesn't exist at all is deluded. As stated before if this is boiled down to just a 'football' problem then the problem never goes away. I'm sure all the football journo's that sterling is unhappy with have degrees

I would be surprised if the general answer is yes, to be honest.

It was not that long ago that Augusta National did not allow black golfers to be members, only the rise of Tiger Woods forced their hand. Just look at the TV coverage Vijay Singh got when he won to see the blatant racism that existed in Golf. That is not including the struggles the R&A have had with allowing women to be members at high level golf clubs.

I am sure that all the F1 black drivers out there have been welcomed, F1 seems a very inclusive sport but again the arrival of Hamilton may have adjusted that a bit but it is not exactly teeming with multiple ethnic groups is it.

I would be surprised if there is not a racist aspect to some of the top level tennis clubs, hopefully I am wrong and everything is rosy but snobbery breeds that contempt for people who are different.

In other words it may seem more 'in your face' with regards to football fans but other sports are not exactly 'clean' of prejudice.

We could all see improvement in all sports and in general culture but recent political situations has told us that it was simply dormant.

I think most people on here have taken offence at being called 'uneducated' and the generalisation from you that we are all Neanderthal bigots dragging our knuckles as we all shout racist abuse.

I think you'll find that the educated toffs who follow rugby and tennis are quite capable of racism. It's just that they know well enough to keep it quiet. They are aware of ways to quietly "black ball" those of whom they disapprove without attracting attention.

A Spurs fan picked up a banana skin off the floor and threw it towards a group of 6 Woolwich players (5 of whom were white) after they scored. It obviously got nowhere near them.
The police said it was not racially motivated.
And it was the Emirates.

Another social media storm in a tea cup. Pathetic.

I’ve no idea and The police might have said that but the court have disagreed and said it had a racial element so in 2018 a footy fan throws a banana skin with racism in mind . Deserves to be a storm in my opinion because it’s beyond ridiculous and contemptible.

How would anyone know what he had in mind?. The throwing of a banana skin in itself is not a racist act. A stupid one granted.

It reminds me of that Monty Python sketch where the fella says 'i fart in your general direction'....he threw a banana skin in the general direction of some Woolwich players, the majority of whom were white.

Is the fella an idiot? Almost certainly. Is he a racist? Unlikely.

That’s what courts are for , intent is specifically an issue dealt with by the court on an almost hourly basis . You might not like it mate but throwing a banana skin at a black player and claiming it’s not racist is to be honest a bit of stretch.

By the way You’re comparing a comedy sketch about farting to throwing a banana skin towards a black player which a court has unsurprisingly decided has a racist element .

By the way I think you’re a sound poster and supportive of your own but to say a bloke is unlikely to be a racist after a court has specifically convicted him of a crime with a racist element which involved throwing a banana skin seems as if you’re trying to avoid an issue .

Its very unfortunate for the fella if it was just a fit of pique and all he had to hand was a healthy snack. But anyone who can't see the connection between racism, bananas and football is kidding themselves. Its got very obvious and historical connections
