Rafael Van Der Vaart

I don't understand why he can't? He does it at international level too.

I just think if we needed a good passer to play deeper, Fellaini is the man surely?

The only thing he is lacking at the moment is the speed of thought and the positional discipline, which can surely be taught or gained through experience.

Playing Fellaini behind the strikers is a waste of a good position which could be occupied by someone more technically gifted and creative, like Pienaar... or van der Vaart :P

Fellaini isn't a passer nor does have have creative qualities.

He's neat and tidy and keeps the ball moving, that's about it really.

He also struggles with quicker, tenacious midfielders biting at his ankles. He's not the answer.

agree with all of that ........ apart from the pienaar/ vdv mention.
the best player for that position (even if we get vdv ) is imo our very own johnny on the spot , mr tim cahill.
he is a late run specialist and there isnt many in the game who can time there runs from deep as good as him .

ps cheers bluelass (y) im sure he will be a super star super tsar.

Seeing the English game is the paciest in the world, I think he will always struggle there. As you said the positional discipline can be taught, but his lack of speed makes him rush into clumsy looking tackles. As he already has the referees on his back, I think he'd be a sitting duck in that role. Would get yellow carded or sent off on many occassions, I'm afraid. Watching Belgium, he doesn't seem to be overly confident in that role also, when playing the better teams.

I think he'd flourish in Serie A or somewhere

Fellaini to Fiorentina this January, you heard it here first

I can't wait for tomorrow's match... Moyes should start with bileyatdinov because we need some fresh ideas in the midfield, i'd play Piennar on the right. The Fans are up for this one,Bily should experience the Goodison Atmosphere.

The Pienaar-Baines partnership is the best thing we've got going for us, mate. Moyes would be a fool to break it up.

Piennar is naturally right footed though... we played Arteta in his less favoured role for too long.We saw how brilliant he was when in the center of midfield last season. Piennar has to cut inside far too often when on the left, now we have a natural left sided midfielder he has to move across.

Both players are adaptable and neither are out and out wingers, they could both do a job on either side and that's what Moyes does, our wide players change sides throughout games.

Bilyaletdinov has said he doesn't mind playing on the right, his coach used him there last season.
