If we don't sign him in the next few years, we shouldn't even bother.:P
Different opinion to yours though, don't think it's that unrealistic. If we are really interested that is.

One, we could'nt afford the lads wages, two, much bigger clubs will go in for him if he does go up for sale. Our only chance of signing him will be Ginola/Gascoigne-esque with him being well passed his best. I may be wrong here but i doubt it. :P

I'm with Dutch Toffee - not sure he'd see us as a "smaller" club than Hamburg. If he wants to be a starter, he must have realized by now that it's no use moving to a so-called "bigger" club. I think he'd seriously consider us, and we could afford the transfer fee. The big question is wages - would he compromise there? Not sure.

But if we do get him - potentially the best Everton midfielder since Bally.

Thing is, at the moment there are only rumours about the likes of Ajax, HSV and Everton being interested. If VDV joins one of these clubs, He will have to compromise on his wages. There's no way either of the mentioned clubs, can afford to offer him the same wages as he's getting at Madrid.

He already all but ruled out Ajax, by stating he doesn't want to return to Holland at this stage of his career. Also wage wise we must be able to offer better terms than Hamburg. On top of that the Premier League is a superior league compared to the Bundesliga. He did state in the summer, that he wasn't really interested in a return to the Bundesliga.

I'm confident, that as long the standard of clubs being linked with VDV, don't exceed that of HSV, we have every chance of getting him. Problem is, if PL clubs like Spurs or City enter the frame, because there's no way we can match their wages.

On top of that, VDV will want to get playing time more than anything else, with an eye on the WC in SA.

[Poor language removed] and Chelsea are supposedly interested. He'll see the names and go.:(

Come on pal, he's been one of our best players for the past two seasons and was playing very well at the beginning of this season.

You have some strange views on our players.

He played well in Europe.
In the league, he has been very lethargic this season. My views may be strange, but my memory is unclouded. :)

Sorry BB, but have to agree with Chico here. First Howard and now Pienaar?:P

Spit that blue fluff out at once. :D

Cahill as well, 100% City fan.

Cahill may help us get VDV ....... ahem.

If i remember mate, he didnt really want to leave HSV - he had a lot of time for the club and his family had good roots put down there - i can see him going back there tbh!
