Start of the season you could see what the plan or ‘philosophy’ was. Hit teams on the counter with pace from a solid base.

It was enjoyable to watch and got results.

Our squad is paper thin in terms of quality and mix match of styles across the previous 4-5 managers.

The early season style worked because we had the tools at our disposal- Doucoure breaking from midfield, DCL making it stick and breaking the lines with pace on the flanks from Gray and Townsend. The defence were fairly well organised with Mina playing plenty of minutes across the good performances.

Take these players out and add to the horrendous injury list we have you’re left with a group of players that can’t cohesively play a certain style.

Going into next week without Gray, Richarlison and DCL is really quite bleak. I just hope Doucoure is back.

Benitez wasn’t for me, I just can’t help think we can’t put this poor slump completely at him.
