Rafael and the small club comment

Roy Hodgson is doing far better than Rafael has in this league.

Lets get Roy in.

Kenny Dalglish has won multiple trophies in this league.

Lets get Kenny in.

I do wonder about some people.

I keep seeing stuff like "his history shouldn't matter". Of course it matters! If it didn't matter then whats the point in football? Rivalries are great and need to be upheld.

It's not like he is the only manager in the world, he is not even the best candidate so i don't know why some people are seemingly bending over backwards to take him.

I hate him.

Plus I think hes a crap manager.

Thankfully he will never manage us.

Like him or not is a personal decision but surely you cant really believe he's a crap manager? You must have extremely high standards if you think that someone that managed them lot to 2 champion league finals in 3 years on a sell to buy budget and gave La Liga one of the greatest teams its ever seen not named Barcelona or Real Madrid is crap. Even at places where he is considered to have underperformed he won trophies (2 at Inter and 1 at Chelsea) while also winning 2 in Naples. But either maybe you weren't aware of that or if you were just dont think winning trophies and over performing more often than not is important.

You probably won't answer this but I'd love to know which managers you dont think are crap in this era.........there can't be more than 3 or 4 surely???

Not even remotely similar. Let's take away Schah, Fernandez, Clark, Hayden, Dubravka, Almiron, take away the development work he did with Lascelles, Shelvey, Longstaff, Townsend, Perez, Ritchie, the fact he made Sissoko a 30m player.

Whereas Bruce spent 40m on a striker that can't score, who Rafael wouldn't sanction a move for. 20m on a winger who is terrible.

You are either Rafael Benitez or his agent.

He finished 3rd at Real Madrid.

He took Newcastle to 13th.

Hes a terrible, terrible manager.

Which managers I dont think are crap?

Pep, Klopp, Simeone, Poch, Ancelotti, Marco Rose, Duncan Ferguson, Conte, Allegri, Sarri, Jose, Gallardo, Foncesca.

off the top of my head.

A sell to buy budget! Christ i've heard it all now.

The 3rd at Madrid I can give you but 13th @ Barcodes.......seriously

Anyway thanks for your list as its interesting to know of others opinions even if we agree to disagree on this one! If you wanted to talk style of play now that one I could get on board with ;)

I don't want Rafael at Everton but anyone suggesting he is a crap manager clearly have another agenda.

Good managers win league titles.

He failed to do that in Italy, in England, in China and at Real Madrid, an utter fraud of a manager who might have had something about him 15 years ago at Valencia but since then hes been terrible at some of the best teams in the world.

I can name you dozens of other managers who would’ve got Newcastle to 13th in the league for a fraction of the money Benitez was on.

Whilst he was managing Newcastle, we were sitting in the relegation zone, got big Sam in, overtook them and finished comfortably above them.
As well as beating them at their own ground in a VERY rare away win.

Why? Have you looked at their final teams that' 05 and '07 and what type of quality? Those US owners nearly buried them. But not going to get into it and waste energy on them as this is about Benitez and what he brings as a manager and not them.

Monday was kind of a "come and get me", but he's also hedging his bets in case no one tries to sign him

He'd command a top job anywhere, managers who have his sort of CV will never struggle for a top job on the management merry go-round.

I think if he wasn't in China he'd already be at Arsenal, Spurs or Bayern.

Hicks and Gillette took over in 2007, they had nothing to do with those teams. He wasn't operating on anything even remotely resembling a sell to buy basis, he was spending what was at the time an inordinate amount of money. In 2004/5 there was a £60m difference in Everton and Liverpool's net spend. We finished above them. Sell to buy though. Unreal.

Wasn't big Sam manager at Newcastle once under the same owner? What position did he finish with them in his one season there?

I like how you named countries, but then when it came to Spain you wrote Real Madrid, because your narrative didn't work because of Valencia.

How do you expect him to win a title in China when he has only managed 15 games, even if he won every game, he still wouldn't be able to win the title.

How many titles have Napoli won since Rafael left?
