I love Heitinga, he's a fighter who gives his all for the team and he's got that slightly snidey side to him, which we've often lacked, which is partly why we often lose the derbies alongside Moyes defensive tactics.

I hope he stays, he's a legend.

Everton defender John Heitinga has stressed his determination to stay at the club and fight for his first-team place.

The Holland international was a substitute for Monday's 1-0 victory over Manchester United at Goodison Park and only came off the bench with moments remaining.

With Phil Jagielka and Sylvain Distin in fine form at the heart of the Everton defence there has been speculation that the 28-year-old Dutchman could leave before the transfer window shuts.

But Heitinga insists he is happy and is not looking to leave the club he joined from Atletico Madrid in 2009.

"I will fight for my position and stay at Everton," said Heitinga on Twitter.

"Everton is a big club. A club where I feel really well."
Never say never

Asked whether he would consider returning to former side Ajax, he added: "I learnt in football never to say never.

"Ajax and Everton are my clubs. The time isn't there yet to come to Amsterdam."

Jagielka may be keeping Heitinga out of the side but he is hoping there will be no late exits this transfer window.

The Toffees lost Mikel Arteta on deadline day last year but Jagielka feels there is a different mood about the club time around and is happy with the way David Moyes is conducting his business.

The Everton boss has already brought in Steven Naismith and Kevin Mirallas as well as completing a permanent deal to bring Steven Pienaar back to Goodison Park.

"It was a fantastic move for Mikel going to Arsenal but it was the last minute of the transfer window," said the 30-year-old England defender.

"As far as fans were concerned they were bound to be gutted because not only have you lost a fantastic player but there was no opportunity to replace him.

"That is the difference this year: we have over a week left of the transfer window and there might be a couple of quid in for a loan or something else.

"But if not if you asked supporters how healthy they thought the squad was they are probably quite happy and the bench looked healthy against United.

"We've bought Naismith and Pienaar - that doesn't sound much but they are two good players - and we brought in Nikica Jelavic and Darron Gibson in January.

"In the last eight months that is four big signings. When you add Kevin to that we have had people coming in.

"Last season we sold Arteta, (Jermaine) Beckford and Yakubu and there wasn't anyone coming in."

top news, distin shouldn't be playing every game because of his age, the three are equal in my opinion with regards to quality, don't know who of the 2 to put in my starting XI's, good to have healthy competition

He was unlikely to say that he wanted out ,he hated Moyes/Kenwright etc. and was prepared to forego the extensive loyalty bonus he would earn if sold without asking for a transfer.
