Pure Rumour - Heitinga to Inter £10m

Sheeds will confirm this but the club have been seeking buyers for some time in the background.

Still it has been some week.

A really crap one!!

Cahill leaving is still the only thing to happen, and that hasn't really 100% happened yet.

Moyes knew he had to sell a big player or move 2-3 fringe players on (Yes I no Johnny isent a fringe player but there is cover)

I think if Baines went to Utd Johnny wouldent be leaving but once he had knocked back Utd his time was up

Moyes needs money to bring in new faces, Cahill,Yobo and Johnny are the players he thinks he can scarifice without upsetting the balance of the team to much

That annoyingly makes sense!

Fenerbache seem to have not only tried to railroad Everton, but Yobo also.
From what Sheedy has said it looks as if they were prepared to dump Yobo for the chance of signing Heitinga.Unfortunately for them a player of Heitingas stature will not go to a club like Fenerbache or a second rate Turkish league.
Up to now it seemed to be Fenerbache and Yobo against Everton, maybe that has changed a little.
I think that bigger clubs in better leagues may now start to look at Heitinga, and maybe Yobos agent will have to start earning his living.

Some stats from last season you may or may not find interesting:

Tackles: Jagielka 1.8 (55), Distin 1.6 (42), Heitinga 1.3 (40)
Interceptions: Distin 2.5 (67), Jagielka 2.1 (63), Heitinga 1.5 (44)
Offsides won: Heitinga 0.9 (26), Distin 0.9 (24), Jagielka 0.6 (18)
Clearances: Jagielka 7.6 (229), Distin 8 (215), Heitinga 5.4 (162)
Was dribbled: Heitinga 0.3 (10), Jagielka 0.3 (9), Distin 0.3 (7)
Blocks: Heitinga 1.1 (33), Distin 0.6 (17), Jagielka 0.5 (14)
Aeriel duels: Distin 2 (53/77), Jagielka 1.8 (54/75), Heitinga 0.8 (24/47)

(all figures per game)

So for as much as Heitinga is a war dog and throws his body in the way, which is obviously what the fans want to see from our players considering his POTS accolade, he was statistically the poorest of our first choice centre-backs last season in four key areas for a player of his position.

His aerial duel success rate of 52% in particular was very poor, yet he started both games v Stoke. Jagielka is only an inch taller yet his success rate is considerably better.

Don't get me wrong, he was a rock at the back end of last season, but I really don't think it's the end of the world if he leaves.

Well they have let most screw us over in the past , commercially to ("That`ll do , yeh") , so whats the problem with this yobo deal like , Shame they couldn't of haggled this long on the sale of the Worlds youngest & hottest a property in world football at the time wayne rooney

Strange looking at those stats.

To me Jagielka looked off the pace a bit last season whereas I thought Johnny was playing blinders week-in-week-out. These stats seem to say pretty much the opposite!

Wonder what the comparitive statistics for hoofballs and balls played out of defence to another Everton player would be?

I'm with you mate. He had a decent 6 months and I don't want to sell anyone. But with Jags-Distin-Duffy there is cover their and if it released money to buy Pienaar and a right midfielder I'd sell him. I am amazed still he won fans player of the year.

Jagielka gets a fair amount of stick around here from what I've read but it looks like he's gone about his business very quietly. I would pick him every week too if I was Moyes.

Ask and you shall receive:

Long balls (Hoofballs): Jagielka 6.6 (197/343), Heitinga 4.7 (140/231), Distin: 2.4 (65/139)

Can't get hold of balls being played out of defence, but Johnny did have the highest pass success rate to his credit.

Yeah, important to remember Duffy in the equation too. He's showing more than enough signs that he can make the first team grade, probably not as a regular starter just yet though.

I was surprised with Johnny's win too.

Selling Heitinga would be just yet another footnote in the disgraceful chapter of our history that this 25 year decline has been.
We know our transfer policy is a genuine joke and the fees involved are always the punchline: £10 million for Arteta, £2 million for Pienaar, £2 million for Yakubu and now £5 million for Heitinga? Ridiculous

Still, the Johnny/Jagielka partnership looked the strongest, and my only worry is Distin's age and knack of stupid decisions. I wouldn't want to be solely relying on Duffy to fill Johnny's boots, so if we were to sell, we need to be getting at least £7 mil to (hopefully) put towards another centre back of similar quality (that Kjaer from Wolfsburg maybe if he's still available). But, the thing is, if Johnny (at least for now) is reasonably happy (why wouldn't he be he's on £50+ k a week!) and no offers that could at least get us a decent replacement come in, why sell? FFS Everton!
