And at some point it is going to be necessary.

Or at least some of it will. I think it's reasonable to expect some things will be back to normal by August or September. At that point it might be enough just to keep testing players regularly and keeping staff limited. I think that's a key part. I know teams are used to having hundreds of people working on all sorts of stuff but it might have to get a bit old fashioned for awhile.

But this can and in my opinion will be done.
Mate I hope you’re right. But right now they need to end this season and replay it when possible. The notion of prolonging things indefinitely to play 9 games which would then endanger a full 38 game next season is ludicrous.

Oh I'm not suggesting restarting this season. But I do think next season will be played without fans for at least half of it.

My timeline is bin off this season and aim to start the new one in September without fans. Abbreviate the European comps, cut the League cup and try to get the league in for 2020-21. If we have to go back to heavier restrictions because of a resurgance then we changes can be made at that point.

Fella from Bournemouth saying similar, saying it's crazy to be thinking of playing until there's a guarantee it's safe to do so...
Also noticed Jimmy Anderson saying what every sane person should be thinking, it's not right for sportspeople to be prioritised for testing while the NHS etc still need them

Yes, I see the premier league are making a point about ‘private’ tests but they just look incredibly tone deaf

If that lot being handed their little participation trophy means the end of the season and an end to the nonsense talk of further games then so be it. They can have their tainted non-title as far as I'm concerned so long as the rest of us can breathe a little easier knowing that thousands of people won't be put at risk for this utter farce.

More and more players and 'unnamed owners' coming out with stuff about not playing untill theirs a vaccine, no more deaths etc
Looks like the fa may have a battle on their hands

From the Athletic

The testing process itself will be complex and Premier League medical experts currently expect that the screening process will be comprised of the antigen testing that demonstrates whether or not a person has the disease, rather than to demonstrate immunity. Yet it is further complicated as there have been cases whereby individuals are asymptomatic for several days and as such, anyone in contact with players would need to be tested twice per week, while the results of tests are not instant.

One idea is to create quarantined training bases and hotels that would keep players isolated in their teams and away from their families. Yet clubs and players are warning that the participants simply do not want this. One Premier League player insisted to The Athletic he would not agree to remain in a strict sterile camp as his wife needs his support with their four children, particularly at a time where grandparents or outside help is not feasible due to social distancing guidelines. Another player, however, said he would be concerned to head into training every day and then return home, where he lives with his in-laws, who are in an at-risk category. The Premier League player, who explained he knows staff working around the clock to save lives in hospitals, concluded: “If it is so extreme that you need to lock players away, surely we need to consider why on earth we are playing football.”

Yet there have been exceptions and alarm bells are ringing for some. On Tuesday, one agent in Spain, for example, sent one of our writers a link to a Washington Post article that reported alleged links between coronavirus diagnoses and strokes among younger people in their 30s and 40s. The agent wanted to know whether football could truly say it is not imposing added risk on his client. On Wednesday, research by Italian immunologists based in Berlin, Rome and Vienna suggested that in the course of strenuous exercise, athletes are more likely to inhale virus particles and direct them to the lower parts of the lung.

The FA will be sending out memos asking clubs if they can "just award Liverpool the title and then void the season". Desperate times call for desperate measures. Where are the impartial voices of Jamie Kedknapp and Michael Owen on the matter?

I'm surprised the government are not taking more control of this situation.

Some of the statements coming out number 10 are we are at the point of both big opportunity and big risk. We must continue to social distance and take advantage of the efforts we have all put in to fight back against COVID-19.

For football to go against this, for any sport or industry would be a joke. I completely understand it is easy for my to say as an Everton fan, just as liverpool are on the verge of their league win, but that is just the way it is.

Christ if people want to play these games that badly, drop a cup competition next year and play the remaining fixtures instead.

I dont understand this though. Even if they do source them "privately" (whatever that means), then they are just lowering the global supply for the medical profession.

The demand for tests outstrips the supply. So tests should go to those needing them most. If we have the top leagues in Europe testing hundreds every day, then that just hurts the whole procurement system? Or do I fundamentally misunderstand how it works?

Exactly and the money involved in the PL is astronomical. French teams do not lose over £100 million for relegation and have players on massive wages in the 2nd division. Lyon are 8 points of CL football with 12 games to go, they could have to sell their best players if they miss out - they will challenge that!

The fact that some teams have played a game less is telling to. Someone is going to have to decide whether they win, lose or draw that game!

As I said. Hope they win. Nothing shpuld be awarded for something that hasnt been completed. So thats Lyon and Toulouse

It will be from a dodgy Chinese company where every test shows as a negative, to make themselves feel better.
