Project restart discussion.

During the first wave when football stopped, I didn't care one bit and didn't believe it when people were saying that football continuing was "Good for suppoerters moral etc," but since Project Restart I'm now watching at least 50% more games and also now have the extra interest of having small bets on most of them.
If the stupidity of the small amount of players were not to happen again/players adhere to the bubble, I'm all for football continuing cos I 'kin hate soaps and most of the other crap on tv.

Yer have to agree with my good mate here

Hi Catcher, apologies for missing your reply here. I completely agree with all of the sentiment here, but I am aghast that someone as smart as your goodself could not see the inevitablity of the last paragraph here. It was always going to be the case that the "ineptitude, stupidity, short sightedness and cowardice of the governing bodies" dictated things. We are still seeing that now, with the PL "show must go-on" madness, which in turn we will hear from UEFA about CL, Europa league and international matches, despite them all being a recipe for disaster.

Until the decisions are taken out of the hands of football bodies by governments, the car-crash will stay on the road

No worries mate, I post a lot so things get missed!

I thnk a strong organisation would have recognised we had a crisis but the key would be to contain, rather than expand the contagion. We didn't do that, and dithered for along time, without even contemplating ending the season.

Look the issue here isn't me or you. We can make suggestions but we are just fans. The people who are paid big bucks should be able to make difficult decisions.

It's not football and never will be.

And if it's me, football is stopped.

However the principle has already been established we can play football in a pandemic. That was a mistake for me, but now the principle has been established, the how has to go on.

Football decided last summer, rather than trying to help society, it would screw society over, steal tests from the NHS for themselves etc. It's too late to undo those things.

It didn't. it completed, with settlement of champions European spots & relegation, There is a huge difference between that and stopped / voided

Ok, I think we are arguing over terms here. Stopping, voiding, abandoning etc.

We could have stopped the league. Once that decision was made, another one could have been made about what to do with league placings etc. I was not massively bothered about that, but I felt it should have been stopped, and the space been allowed to discuss the fairest way to conclude the season.

Completely agree, but sadly when we got into the weeds alot in April / May on this, the core premise to my arguement on why "Null and Void" or anything else sensible would not happen was the greed and self serving nature of Footballs governing bodies would ultimately prevail, nothing has changed a year on.

We now have a stupidly packed calendar to fit in European matches and bubble breaking international matches, before drawing a close for the Euro's which now don't even have a venue.

My very first post on this subject was a suggestion that the 20/21 season would be a Jan - Oct season, with the Euros a year aheaed of the WC and 2022 would be the same with the major leagues and cups going jan - oct with breaks etc; daft as it seems, I still think that is where we might end up

We could do mate. And you'd have to say, for a domestic league to allow that to happen, it would been a validation of the awful planning.

Yeah - I don't forsee a league going rogue though, my gut feeling is if football (pan-European) goes on a further hiatus, which is beginning to feel more and more likely, there will be a radical calandar reshuffle at that point; but its absolute guesswork

Aston Villa can confirm that the Club has closed its Bodymoor Heath training ground after a significant Coronavirus outbreak.

A large number of first team players and staff returned positive tests after being routinely tested on Monday and immediately went into isolation.

A second round of testing was carried out immediately and produced more positive results today.

First team training ahead of tomorrow’s FA Cup match with Liverpool was cancelled.

Discussions are ongoing between medical representatives of the Club, the Football Association and the Premier League.

Just saw this and thought I would share....

Should Spurs have a cup run (likely with JM) - they have no wriggle room in the calendar at all.
Match V's Villa now looks likely to be cancelled.

That possible horrendous fixture list is why teams not in European competition have a chance of doing better than normal.
