Just for the purposes of being fair. Martinez had this squad 13th Koeman has it 7th the bulk of his critics were equally as critical of the Summer window. I'm sure there is an analogy in there somewhere but it does seem odd to criticise the manager when you were previously criticising the 'tools' he was afforded.

Let's put it this way after 12 games under Martinez the consensus about him as a manager would've of been somewhat different to the actual reality. Koeman is being roundly criticised and we are 7th and if West Ham win we'll be a point off 5th a 1/3 of the way into the season.

The question should be, What were you expecting??

Sadly it's a repeat of last season where you can say we are x points of x place but at the same time dropping points all over the shop down to us being poor.

So we may be one point off 5th and be in a position where we expected to be, but it doesn't take away we could and should be better placed by now

I agree, the pressing is embarrassing, we have no leader and we lack zest. This squad on paper should be playing better, but it was never ever ever going to finish higher than 7th unless like in 12/13 two teams have stinkers like Spurs and UTD did who both sacked their managers during that season.

But nah, I think people are expecting far too much. As previously stated I'm very much on the fence with Koeman, but to level any huge amount of criticism thus far would be a bit strong and knee jerk. Needs a good year or two to be tracked and watch for said progress.

And we made a good start last season, this one is being hammered and it's still better.

The first half today was like a morgue. Quieter.
Guy next to me spent most of the game looking at his phone.
Get involved FFS and we might not spend the festive period like we did the last 2 seasons.

To me unbeaten at home is progress.
Not leaking at set pieces is progress.
Mostly the atmosphere and the closing down is progress.
If Koeman can deliver me a half decent XMAS and new year where Martinez couldn't then that's REAL progress.
IMO if you haven't got a sore throat then you were doing it wrong today.

I lack patience. I'd want to see top 8 this season, that is obviously still well and truly on, but it's a bit sluggish.

I'm taking faith from looking at Pochettino and Klopp's start at their clubs, they had some wretched results in their first 15 or so games for example Liverpool got hammered 3-0 by Watford. Look at them now, just a bit of patience.

I'll never understand those who hammered the board for our summer window who now are panning Koeman that's just hypocritical IMHO.

I still think we will get that top 8. It should be a benchmark after all. It'll be ugly but we should do it. People forget how awful this league has become over the last 5 years, there's something seriously wrong if you can't make the top half.
