Its not his choice apparently. It has already been requested to be a trial by jury by Virginia Giuffre. Her shout not his.
His legal team are just spinning a decision that is outside their control to appear that it’s what he wanted (now demanding) all along.

But a US lawyer dismissed it as a "PR move", adding Ms Giuffre had already asked for a jury trial.
Lisa Bloom, who represents a number of Maxwell's and Epstein's accusers, said Prince Andrew's request was "meaningless" as it was Ms Giuffre's constitutional right to have a jury trial if she asked for one.
I think it was also mentioned that he doesn’t have to appear in person if his legal team think they can put a case together that still has credibility without him appearing.
