Ah right cheers, not that we were ever in danger of going down but that's for another thread.

I'd have gladly sacrificed another 3 or 4 places in the league to win the EL.

I can understand this sentiment. I think most would.

To bring it back round on topic, I think our recruiting efforts would have been easier if we won the EL and finished 15th.

Champions League football is very important in today's transfer market.

....I wonder what Naismith made of the bid from Norwich. If EFC had accepted the offer I wonder if Naismith would've agreed to it. £800k as part of the transfer might have been a temptation.

Dennis praet netted for belgium u21s today.

Recon he will be one of them ones that in 12 months time his value will double. Like alot of teams could of got depay for 15mil 12 months ago

I've wondered whether us rejecting the bid motivates him to reward the loyalty or does he look at the negotiations as a sign that we wanted rid at the right price. I know these lads are professional, but I do think part of what makes them play is a sense of being wanted/valued. You hear that stuff constantly from players and managers (Lennon, Lukaku, Del all mentioned it as a factor in their decision. Its good p.r. but I don't think it means it isn't true).

.....I wasn't aware we got involved in negotiations, I thought we simply refused the bid. You are right, though, feeling a valued part of the set up is important for most players.

Don't know the details myself. Ultimately, he's a limited player. Him playing his heart out a little more than he normally does isn't going to make him into a great player. Clutching at straws here.

You just can't help yourself can you?

Just don't click on the thread.

*starts a new thread about free agents we should sign*

Glad to see the powers what be are looking after

the freedom for the ordinary posters who like to read about various topics on here without judgemental jarg preview writers (aka @chicoazul) giving it large when they should be doing what they're meant to be (writing previews and piping down).

Thanks mate.

Money would have had to be huge I reckon.

Indeed. There isn't enough resonance placed on character of players. Naismith has it in bucketloads and as such his worth to the team extends far beyond his footballing attributes.

Now had the bid been say...£10m, and had we a replacement in hand then there may have been more of a decision to make. But the likes of Naismith and the likes of Osman and Hibbert are hugely undervalued by many for their perceived failings and because they're not fancy foreign signings. Clubs need their like or else we become a mere stopgap for transient footballers.

Ah, he's just a clumsy snidey yard-dog. ;)

Do you really think he was that close? I think that was the first and only moment when I'd say a majority of fans had turned against him.

The win against Newcastle and the nature of the win was very important, as was following it up with another win at QPR.

There's never been a time when the majority turned against him....nowhere near. There was however a time when in post-loss fume a couple of hundred forum posters wanted him gone. There's a huge difference.
