He needed to deal with that last summer when his stock was sky high. Big shake out was needed and the ageing squad bequeathed to him by Moyes addressed. He's made decent inroads on that this summer.

Last season I thought he was almost gone after that Stoke away game. He looked like the task was too much for him and I half expected the board to react and bullet him. It's hard to say off what we've seen this season yet, but the players look fit enough and up for the fight...and I think Martinez has secured his position with the transfer window antics. He came out of it with a lot of credit even from people who aren't that fussy on him.

That said, he'll need a top half finish minimum this season and maybe an extended run in the cup.

Do you really think he was that close? I think that was the first and only moment when I'd say a majority of fans had turned against him.

The win against Newcastle and the nature of the win was very important, as was following it up with another win at QPR.

So, which part of that is rubbish? Do you think that deulofeu and Lennon are poor additions/deals?Or do you not think that our top priority should have been a playmaker in the center of midfield?
I'm glad we signed players who will immediately challenge for first xi spots, but we needed to address a playmaker, striker and keeper before signing more wide players.

Just read the first bit of common sense from a journo on John Stones, and amazingly it's on the Daily Star

FORMER Chelsea defender Jason Cundy has rued what could have been with the club's pursuit of John Stones.

The champions tried and failed with four bids for the Everton defender over the summer.

Jose Mourinho's final offer was £37m but Cundy thinks if their opening offer had been higher than £20m, and submitted earlier, then they could have been in business.

By making a more realistic offer earlier in the window negotiations could have been completed quickly and terms could have been agreed with enough time for Everton to find a replacement.

Cundy told IBT: "Clubs, when the deals are so late, find themselves in the scenario where they need to find replacements for those players themselves.

"If Everton were to have sold Stones, they would have had days to figure out who to replace him with.

"So if they have the money, say £40m, and a player in mind to replace him with, the selling club will add £5m on top because clubs would know Everton are in that situation where they have to buy.

"It's a vicious circle. You put the two factors together and selling doesn't make a lot of sense."

Right it's over. The forum had to suffer various melts tossing themselves off other jarg rumours and computer game player knowledge for a whole summer. As usual you behaved like a bad kopite/Geordie hybrid and made the forum the cringiest of all places to visit. Lay off the Soccer AM you teds.

The normal match fearing Evertonians on here deserve a break until January from your speculative transfer guff.

Lock this down mods and let us breathe.

Playmaker is priority but another proven front man and a keeper might get give us the ability to be top 4 keeper. I was on a coaching course over summer . A former utd coach was involved and said howard was a very good keeper a premiership keeper but utd felt he wasn't a consistent keeper who had ability for a top 4 club. It remains the same. Players we need to bring in would need to be close to that level. No point having more naismithesk ability players. We have enough of them and tho they are decent they are nowhere near top 4. If we aiming for there we need players of that ability. If we can't attract them Jan or next summer there will be an exodus of our quality players.

I would like to know what he thinks he’s seen in that rodriguez, not exactly the greatest goalscoring record in a league that looks to have the quality of sunday league footy and he’s never been noticed by his national team at any age group, gotta give the lad a chance once he puts the shirt on and hope he proves my initial thoughts wrong but is he sure he’s signed the right person.

What hurts most is that you're doing this on purpose and there's nothing I can do about it.

Please spare us from the transfer teds. I beg thee.

Have to agree, I love the forum and I used to like a bit of cheeky transfer speculation.

After that summer, I wish the window was shut for 5 years.

Price? Cheap wages? Chance that he may come good?
