One weakness they have is that they are god damned terrible every season in the CL, not exactly easy to turn that around all of a sudden, they just freeze big time, not a chance on earth they will do anything once again in the CL, won't be shocked at all to see them going out in the group stage once again
There is that but recently they've had hard groups and have gone out against Barca the last two years?

There's not much shame in that. I don't buy the whole they haven't shown up in Europe narrative. I think they've just been a bit unlucky.

You're only viewing the window from one side then. Keeping our best players despite repeated interest from Champions League clubs is still a positive. The window is about players coming in and players leaving. We did a good job keeping our players which bumps it up in my eyes.

The absence of regression is not a positive. It's maintenance of the status quo. If that fulfills your ambitions then great. I for one would like my club to aim higher.

Regarding the sale John Stones , the issue that none of the media are addressing is who he should be replaced by at Everton.

There is a very solid argument that at 40m Everton or any club should take that enormous windfall and run. Every player has a price and there is always the chance that John Stones is at his peak now. The mistake that Chelsea made is treating Everton a a little club and making Everton prove that it would not be bullied...which it did in great style.

But, when Merson and others say to sell John Stones, what happens then ? , Mori has arrived at the club and there will almost inevitably be a lengthy settling in period.
Browning, Galloway and Pennington are not ready yet to play centreback in the premiership every week.
So , does Merson tell us to go with what we have , or sign somebody untried and untested(ironically which is what Chelsea have now done).
If the pundits take their Chelsea hats off for a minute and think about Everton ,who do we sign and do we use up a large slice of the money from the sale of Stones to bring in a player that just may not be as good.
Money in the bank is alright but rarely wins you premiership points.
The media are not balanced in their coverage , SKY are notoriously poor because some of their commentators are simply so poor. Merson struggles with the basics of the language , Cascarino is even worse, McEnally headed one or two balls too many in his time , Henry seems very pleaseant and quite intelligent but knows what his employers want and is prepared to go along with it.

3.

Keeping Stones is all good and fine, but without the accompanying statement of intent a key signing would have made it is more of a hollow victory than it should of been.

Instead of saying "we're keeping our best players and kicking on", we've came across as "we're keeping our best players and doing not much else."

Aside from the message the activity sent, the low rating comes from the acquisitions themselves. They are "OK", and I don't have any problem with them really and I'm sure they'll bolster the squad - but to not bring in a player to address in my eyes the most pressing area of concern (being the playmaker), it effectively makes the entire window a failure.

Stones stayed.
added pace.
added attacking options.
added defensive cover.
integrated further some promising youngsters.
overall spend suggests evidence of Martinez 'stockpiling' cash and awaiting quality additions rather than spending for the sake:
"We've got money but I didn't want to spend it in January," Martinez told reporters.

"The cash has been here before but in the past they [Everton] have spent £10m in one window, £6m in another window.

"What we have done is bring in loan players, short-term players, and used the young players to accumulate money. It is about spending it a little bit at a time or all at once. I prefer to stockpile for the summer.

"Having to sell players, reduce the wage bill and keep money from other areas to make a big pot is what I've been aiming for over the last 10 months."

7/10

I honestly dread to think of the ratings some of you would have given windows over the last 5 or 6 years.

Yeah, like that time we never bought a player for about 50 windows. How do you even give them a rating when people are throwing 3, 2 and 1 ratings around for this window?
