Gave it a 6 for the simple reason I was working alone today so it kept me entertained, especially lunch time with all the Eric Lamela stuff.

I think Bobby has dropped a bollock by not bringing in a creative player but I guess we will just have to wait and see.

Lol, just read a Telegraph article about Arsenal/Wenger. They've already got a timer running, counting down to the January window. Bells.
I would be raging. They are one striker and holding midfielder away. Even just a holding midfielder would have given them a shot.

7 out of 10.

Signed 5 1st team squad players - Deulofeu, Lennon, Cleverley, Mori, Rodrigues.

Signed 2 very promising kids - Henen, Holgate.

Spent over £20m (net spend), didn't sell anyone to make the squad smaller.

Rejected 3 bids for John Stones, despite a relentless 6 week media campaign, including a bid of £30m. Rejected the players transfer request & made a statement that were no longer a selling club.

Signed 2 1st team players to new long term contracts, McCarthy & Mirallas, despite lengthy media speculation linking them with Spurs & West Ham.

Why are so many people so down on this window? Yeah, we didn't get a no. 10. But overall, if somebody had offered the above at the start of June, I'd have bitten their hand off.

I'm relatively pleased. Just 2 years ago 'we had no money so we signed the players on loan'. At least now we're spending actually money on permanent additions to improve the team.

I think Deulofeu has more potential than some of the players people are clamouring for. at a few mill it feels like exactly the kind of signing we do really well. he needs to develop parts of his game but thats why he is at Everton. That is what we have to do. Could be a massive player for us.

Lennon, really have no doubt this is a good signing. We have the option of different styles out wide now and we may see Coleman feel like a new player with this lad on board.

Big plus as well is that we know these players fit the squad in terms of personality and love it here.

Mori. Even when being criticised this lad's personality, attitude, organisation and fighting spirit have been praised. these things usually stand you in good stead in the premier league. more importantly we are short of all of that. a presence at setpieces too. A gamble but people weren't happy with more boring options and somehow this signing feels like it will an exciting one to me.

Cleverley. Already looking like a great addition and could get somewhere back to the level that saw a big international career promised.

Few young signings that I think go into the pending file but good to see them made.

We do need players that can change tactics when needed. the ball comes back far too easily with Lukaku as an outlet. People won't want to hear it but we miss Fellaini for this and, equally unpopular probably, but Kone's new confidence could see this become less of an issue. Still need someone but we can wait.

Then someone who can pick a pass from nothing. I have only seen real quality in this position going to one of top four/five in recent years. If Martinez has found someone then we could be flying once they arrive. Still think we could have made an okay signing in this role just to give us options. would have made this a very good window. Maybe he still feels Osman is that option. We will see soon.

And we shouldn't rewrite history now and pretend that Stones still being here is not a huge thing.

I know some people feel Stones, Barkley and Rom will be off without marquee signings and maybe they need to have this or that, see this or that.. but you know what they are supposed to be marquee players and they are getting paid a fortune to be here so... time to get their freak on. Forget what they need, time to show us what they can do.

And, John Stones.

This has nothing to do with the transfer window. They could have signed literally any time before or after and we'd be in the exact same position. Holding on to players shouldnt be a mark of a good window.

Why is continuity such a good thing? We have been utter pap for ages. Some of these players need a good shake up.
I think next season we will have to spend big in the market. At the moment there's a lot of deadwood that we just couldn't shift if we wanted and our budget doesn't allow us to spend extra on wages.

We needed to sign just 1 more player, just 1 more, anyone.

We were very close today.

At the end of last season (after the Spurs game) I would have been very happy to see Martinez leave the club - I said as much in an article on this site.

However I think he has had an exemplary transfer window despite having his hands tied by our friends in the Board. We've kept everyone we wanted to keep, brought in previously loaned players who we know add to the team and the club, and made some good additions to the squad.

Martinez has played a blinder - the jury is still out about what he does on the pitch, but there can be little doubt of his success off the pitch this summer.

I gave it a 6 because we have definitely strengthened the squad, but no more than that because we didn't add the creative midfielder we so badly need.

Agree that overall there has been progress in the makeup of the squad. However, unless Barkley or our other central midfielders improve their passing, our forwards and wide players will not threaten defences to the required level needed to create chances and score goals. Our hopes that this type of player would be bought by Everton this summer were dashed, and that has contributed much to the disappointment.
