Bruce Wayne

Player Valuation: £100m
For what it's worth.

1. Couple of really sloppy goals to concede to Young. Jags has been a rock this season so can be excused a mistake, but boy what a mistake.

2. The football wasn't pretty today, but maybe it was designed that way? Can't really argue with the fact that we bossed Villa for large parts of that game.

3. Fellaini. I'm a little concerned that he's becoming the new Ferguson for us. He's so good in the air that we're in danger of hoofing it up to him all the time rather than trying to utilise his strength with decent deliveries.

4. Arteta in the holding role. Didn't convince me today. Again, it may have been a tactic but time after time he was bypassed. Far too many times I'd see him have the ball, pass it back and then forget the ball and trot upfield. He didn't seem to want to orchestrate moves from deep. Maybe Moyes felt an arial approach was best against Villa of course, but he wasn't at all influential today.

5. Osman. I like Ossie but he hasn't impressed this season. He's a solid player who will graft all day and can show some nice touches but the game seems to be passing him by these days. I feel at our current stage of trying to break into the top 4 he should be a squad player rather than a regular. A fit and motivated VDM would offer far more threat on that flank. Of course that propsect has a huge question mark hanging over it.

6. Cahill. A shadow of his former self. It seems that Fellaini has stolen his thunder and I'm not really sure what his role in the team is now. I can't remember the last time he even had a shot on goal.

7. Anichebe. Wasn't a threat today. I don't want to write the lad off on one performance because Agbonlahor (sp) did nothing for Villa either, but we need him to show the kind of form that gave Chelsea such a hard time two seasons ago and worried European defences so much last year. He's a big lad, I'd love to see him put himself about more.

Pretty sickening though today. Kinda know how West Ham fans must have felt after we robbed them.

Challenged for headers - was given nothing by the referee when he was hauled down by the Villa Defence, and almost got us a penalty. Good running too - I think he had a good game, what else could he do? really? Without any good delivery to him he couldnt do anything else.

Did you not watch the game?

Osman headed the ball through to Cahill who shot straight at Friedel.

A great part of it has to be put down to poor tactics, now is that not the managers area of influence and what is the captain doing, can he not read a game?

Have to say, Arteta probaly has not had a really decent influential game for dare I say it, a year. What has happened to his corners, free kicks crosses never mind his general play. Also have to say still definitely not a fan of Osman. And Ghost one header? what else in the other 94.5 minutes. I do not mind a midfielder being not so big if they can hack it, Kendall, Harvey, and a blast from the past Tony Kay.

osman is the only player we have who tries to make himself available all the time, but i agree the game does usually pass him bye with the ball about 30ft in the air.

Very short memory, haven't you? Just kidding mate. :D
Seriously though, he had a shot on goal in today's game, but I agree he has been poor this season. I'm most probably one of his biggest fans on this forum, but he desperatly needs to kickstart his season.

I am relatively happy with our performance, which just makes me even more unhappy with our result.
It was much more 1-sided game than last season's clash (2-2) at Goodison and we came away with 1 point less, so it's tough.

Arteta surprisengly was decent on defensive end (again solid with doubleteaming and positioning), but lost the ball twice, which lead it to 2 goals conceded. Not what you expect from player with a technical skills like him.

I really rate Fellaini, but I wasn't particularly impressed with him today, especially in last 20-25 minutes, when he was IMHO clearly lacking an energy, plus referee took him off balance with all his decisions.

Similar thing with Anichebe - he was decent as Target Man for first 50-55 minutes, but then he disappeared and under normal circumstances (normal=at least another Anichebe on the bench) he should be benched after 60 mins.

Don't really see a point talking about Jagielka, hopefully he will bounce back from it against MCity and games after it...

They had pace, we didnt.

We made mistakes, they took them.
About right that dude.
We played quite well but missed a cutting edge and i agree about cahill he looked lost.
Who was that bald headed winger that came on for a minute thought it was van the man.

Arteta was very good today, still getting used to the new position but clearly showing that he is going to thrive on that role. A role that I suggested in August

Lots of postives to take for me. The midfield looked balance and we controlled long periods of the game. We battered them and the attitude was right.

Arteta makes us play football, it's as simple as really. He was playing deep because he is the holding midfielder, he's expected to be deep. He kept us ticking without ever taking the game to Villa. I've said we need to play him a bit further forward but with Cahill and Fellaini he can't do that. I also thought his energy and tenacity in midfield was excellent.

I thought Fellaini and especially Cahill got overrun at times, I also felt Cahill played to far forward. We reverted back to 4-4-1-1 when 4-1-4-1 looked very good at Spurs.

I honestly thought Anichebe had a great game for 60 minutes, he was bullying them at times. We did lack creativity though which meant he was having to create for himself...

Lots of positives, we've just got to cut out the lapses.

Also, that refereeing performance was up there with Clattenburg and Collina, what a ********

Agreed...Cahill especially was closed down by their midfield, and he lost the ball most of the time...
