Positive thinking

It just makes no sense. We need 3 players. A striker, left back and centre back. Players are dejected of confidence. Come good we will.

It's very hard to be positive right now. The confidence of the players has been shot to pieces and they've become very accustomed to losing games, as soon as the opposition score in these matches we end up conceding in very quick succession and with our goalscoring problems they know as soon as we concede it's effectively game over. It's a very hard mindset to break away from.

Number one priority for a new manager I think it's to instil a team spirit within the group, they look like strangers out there. After that he has to stop us conceding. After that he has to find a way for us to be effective up front. January is a long way off and there's a lot of points to play for before it arrives so we can't write off the games we've got before then.

Could have a bit more cover in the left back position, come January, Antony Robinson having rave reviews, where he is on loan at Bolton.

It’s going to take a lot more money unfortunately but there it is.

The potential really is there but we have FOUR key areas to address, five if we consider Barkley.

Manager
Centre Back
Left Back
Centre Forward
Barkley

Over to you Farhad, make us great again.[/QUOTE]

There is the problem this bean counter has not got a clue .........

That should be enough to get us back to 'best of the rest'. It is going to take more than that to get us challenging top 6 unfortunately.

I might be so naive I'm flying around a land of rainbow coloured unicorns, but I think that getting that cliched "focal point" up front could easily bring another 20-30% out of everybody else in the team.

Ok, you'll tell me that we'll still be crap at the back with our geriatric tugboat defenders, and yes, I hate them too but bear with me, because at the moment they're under pressure for 90 stinking minutes because we can't hold the ball and we aren't asking any questions whatsoever going forward. It's putting everyone under constant pressure, including me, and you, because we're horrible to watch, aren't we? We toil and work like demons for hours and then concede because we have the audacity to step away from the edge of our own area and get caught by a long ball or a striker who can run fast. Slave away for 70 minutes, concede in 3 seconds, goodnight.

There are too many players in this team who manifestly were good enough who now manifestly are not good enough, that it makes me think there's one bit of secret sauce that made the team work (and we sold it to Man Utd for £75m up front plus our PL status.)

We're holding on for a hero, basically. He's gotta be strong, and he's gotta be fast, and he's gotta score 1 in 2 or we're going down.

Unfortunately, for all this optimism, even if I'm right (and I'm usually not), we're still going to look like a hungover amputee pub team until January at the earliest.

We need

Cover at right back ( Coleman not due back until new year, and not guaranteed to be the player he was, he's had a horrendous injury)

2 centre halves ( Williams and Jags need replacing and quickly, Holgate , not good enough at this level, which leaves Funes Mori and Keane)

2 left backs ( Baines ,love him to bits, but not the player he was, and need cover)

2 strikers ( goes without saying)

That's 7 players we need.

Plus a manager.

Its very hard to have a positive outlook when you look at the cold hard facts.

I do think people are overdoing how bad the squad is. It just needs an injection of energy and direction. Koeman lost his way but was trying things. It’s clear the plan needs to be defence first. Eg last night, could’ve just stuck with the 3 cm’s but I think Unsy got a bit giddy going for the win. Fair play but prob the wrong decision after so many defeats.

I think we need

Left back (baines back legs have gone )

Centre back (jags and Williams are past it)

Right back (competition for Coleman or replacement if Coleman not the same after such a bad injury )

Centre mid (one who can pick forward passes and won't just pass sideways and back like guys and Morgan do.

Left winger/ right winger (need some pace and that bit of qaulity, mirallas has lost his pace and lookman and classic although promising are not at the standard we need.

Striker X 2 an expensive striker and at least someone else who can play up front

I make that 8 players in, and God knows how many need to go.

Fact is, our sqaud is poor and unbalanced I don't think it's any better than teams that have gone down in last year's.

We need manager to keep us in the league for a few windows to get the right players in.
