Doesn't it give you gout?

Not really. It's a form of arthritis caused by a build up of uric acid crystals in the joints. It is associated sometimes with an unhealthy diet though, so could be made worse by drinking port.

The taste in your mouth too, it`s like someone has tarred your mouth with stale port.

Port is one of those drinks that you only get truly bladdered on once !

Traditional Christmas dinner drink for me. The old man used to give me and my brother port and lemonade withChristmas dinner, and I alwaus thought I was being treated like an adult.
Until I had kids myself.
I worked out it was to knock us out so him and the old girl could have a breatherfor a couple of hours

I enjoy a nice glass of Port.

Especially in Portugal where most restaurants offer one a glass on the house as a digestif.

On my list to visit Porto and visit the local hostelries.

Thoughts?

Just done a tasting tour in Porto. Now a confirmed fan. Always shied away from it as I thought it was the preserve of mad drunk colonels.

It might have been, but with age and wisdom I can perhaps get down with the mad old colonels.

Big fan personally. Don't drink wine, but love port. Preferably the tawny ones.
