Thoughts?

Just done a tasting tour in Porto. Now a confirmed fan. Always shied away from it as I thought it was the preserve of mad drunk colonels.

It might have been, but with age and wisdom I can perhaps get down with the mad old colonels.

Got a bottle of port from my brother on my 30th birthday, didn't know it was port, thought it was just red wine. Filled up a large glass a few nights later for some sofa time, took a huge gulp, almost died. Was like I'd just tried to drink blood.

Haven't had any since.

Ellesmere? Plenty of drunks yes for sure, not sure about colonels though, they will likely frequent more affluent areas of the Wirral. A grim stain amongst others on what should be a pleasurable peninsula. Fortunately the hazardous air pollution there hides the notes of excrement.

A good old crusted is the economical way to savouring a decent port mate.

Much to my annoyance, even looking at port brings on severe gout attacks.

(If you’ve never had gout, it’s bloody painful)

I love port, but can no longer tolerate it, the pain is too great.

Port, along with real ales, whisky and red wine - about all I enjoy slurping.

My top tip ... it gets better with time after opening and letting air in. If it lasts that long, of course.
