Politics and stuff

I know Bruce, before I had a child I was a member. Said child ended that (and the mug) in short order.

I very much doubt many people sign-up here to discuss politics, we're all football fans, some who also like to discuss current affairs together.
Have you actually tried to recruit a suitable mod. ?

I know Dan is looking to add an extra mod but I don't know what stage he's at with that or the timelines he's working towards.

Don't hide behind D+D's rules,i'm sure they could be persuaded to change their minds if such things were adequately moderated.

Again though, in the rules that are visible when everyone registers, political discussions are not allowed on here, so I'm not sure why they would be a motivation for someone signing up. We exist for Hibbert, not Putin.

Again, as I've said several times before, people shouldn't look at it that way. If you want to support the site financially, then you do so because you want to support the site financially. It does cost a lot to keep the place running, and it's done largely in the spare time of all who do so, so your support is very much appreciated.

As a token of thanks, we give you a mug, and a place that has relaxed moderation, which given the history of political threads seems an ideal place for such topics to be discussed.

To reiterate, by the strict rules of the site, political threads shouldn't be allowed on here as it is, so you shouldn't sign up here under the expectation that you'll be having political discussions. This is an Everton forum :)

Let's be realistic here, Bruce. People sign up because they are Evertonians. Nobody signs up purely to have a political debate. What happens is, people sign up to view/talk Everton and then see the fantastic conversations which happen in the Ale House part of the forum which interest them too and get involved. I really think you are overstating the conflict in these threads. Perhaps you are more sensitive to that kind of thing, I don't know, but on the whole they are always good-natured.

I won't speak on their behalf, but generally whenever this topic has been discussed behind the scenes, it was only myself (and Esk) that wanted these kind of threads allowed. It really isn't a case that I'm a lone spoilsport here, but rather that I'm more falling in line with the rest of the mod team.

Then close the Ale House, which you have for "general discussion", which clearly doesn't fit with your description of this as an Everton forum.

I'm not even being snarky here, it's just that if your argument is that this is an Everton forum and politics doesn't fit it, then how does talking about the merits of a pasty or what song you're currently listening to fit it?
