Players Released

Cuz Danny knows all. Just like Vic Anichebe is [Poor language removed] and won't make it. Got you on that one (y)

I'm not convinced that he'll make it to be honest.

Is he actually improving? I don't think so he still can't trap a bag of cement. Needs to go out on loan to the championship and be able to play a full 90 minutes before he's made it in my book.

Interesting that even with a year left on his contract, VDM wasn't outright released.

I seriously doubt anyone is going to come in for him so that leads us to the only other alternatives:
  • Moyes will release him at a later date
  • Moyes will let him rot in the reserves for another year
  • Moyes will give him another fresh start next year and wipe the slate clean
I think at this point, my guess is that we might work something out contract wise with him to allow him to pursue footballing opportunities elsewhere.

Not holding on for him to come good now then TX?

Nah, I jumped of that bandwagon after he didn't play against Alkmaar. That was the ideal match for him and he was hurt.

But I am curious as to what Everton are going to do in regards to VDM.

If we we're to release VDM would the compensation for his contract cut into the transfer funds?

If so and it probably will I wouldn't want to release him, VDM should man up and walk away. He's pissing his career away.

Well what he's being paid, he certainly won't walk away from his contract. He'd be foolish to do so.

Right now, if I had to bet on it, I'd say he'll be around but won't be anywhere near the first team next year.

Stranger things have happened though.

I agree, we are not shifting VDM to anyone, I doubt anyone would be interested in him at the moment. If we could offer him out on a season's long loan on 50% wages or something that would be great.

so someone only has to pay roughly 15k for a player that if you can get the best out of him could be a great asset on the wings.

Win - Win for both parties...including VDM as he'd get to go back to holland where the alcohol is cheaper.:lol:

A sad indictment of the man that he's prepared to waste his career just to pick up the money. He's been a pro for a good number of years now, it's unlikely he'll need the money, especially as any footballers contract is a decent wage, even down to the lower divisions.

Well when he knows he won't get anywhere close to what Everton's paying him, can you blame him?

I mean if he's really a "pro," he's going to continue to do everything he can to try and break into Everton's first team while he's still under contract, no matter how remote the possiblity may seem.

But to expect someone to dump a contract just to appease the supporters is just downright dumb.

I was thinking about himself as a pro. There comes a time when you have enough money to live a very good life and any extra becomes unnecessary. Considering he must be on around 20-30k a week and probably has been for the last 5-6 years at least he must be a wealthy guy. Even if he drops down a division he'd still earn 10k a week, half a million a year isn't bad is it.

Surely there comes a point when as a professional you have professional pride in your achievements as a player rather than how much money you've accumulated.

Good point and who knows (really, who knows?) what motivates VDM.

I'd like to think he's saved wisely but for all we know, he's close to being skint and needs the money.

I've always been curious about what Moyes thinks because for the most part, he's been pretty tightlipped about him.

My assumption is that he's not a bad influence or he would have kicked him to the curb a long time ago. I assume he gets on well with his teammates or we would more than likely heard of any internal strife.

i think vdm has been touted around europe since his first season here.
the sad fact is nobody wants him , even on a free.

we cant give this bloke away !!!

i think if we cancelled his contract he can have a case for legal action against us as he is still "fit to play".
so he pretty much has us by the balls.

i wouldnt be surprised if we have offered to buy out his contract for a reduced fee but he has proberly refused.

as for the cull of the youth , man its a drastic measure.
12 players out in a week , can only mean moyes has a master plan for the summer.
hopefully the wages saved means we can get the world class players we need without breaking the wages budget.

Zero, Danny played against him at a lower level, which is where he got his opinion from. However, while he may not actually be the best footballer in the world, he is pretty effective in what he does when he comes off of the bench. He has a good turn on him, is very strong and has a decent enough shot.

Regards to VDM. Watch him do a 'Gravesen' and play a blinder next season, so he can get another contract where he can return to festering.

Moyes does this every summer. Nothing new here.

Is Barnsley in need of a VDM wing? :P
