Late loan round up this time - been on a weekend break in Seville.

As pointed out above, Harrison Armstrong put in a man of the match performance as Derby beat Blackburn 2-1. He was taken off after 87 minutes. Derby still 3 points from safety. The verdict from the Derbyshire Telegraph: "a sound game in the heart of the midfield. Set the tone early with one challenge which won him plenty of acclaim. Plays without fear. 6.5/10."

Mason Holgate came on at half time against QPR after WBA had a player sent off just before the break. He helped the 10 men hang on for a 1-0 win.

A clean sheet and a 3-0 away win for Harry Tyrer and Blackpool away to Barnsley. 7/10 from the Gazette. "Nothing too challenging to do but on hand when needed".

Billy Crellin's Accrington lost 2-0 at Barrow.

Francis Okoronkwo played the full 90 again for Salford who drew 1-1 at home to Crewe.

Jenson Metcalfe missing again for Chesterfield who won at home.

No game for Eli Campbell's Ross County this weekend.

Colin Harvey would have never seen a blue shirt then left to you - he had a mediocre start playing the no 10 role - he became our white Pele ... he got a chance - that's the difference nowadays - loan deals are done in haste leaving some mediocre players in our line-up .. Arsenal played kids upfront in mid-week & romped home, changed it today lucky to get a draw .....

….ok, Joey

It’s great to see Armstrong doing well , and enough you’d hope to keep him the starting lineup when they lose some games and he doesn’t do so well. He’s capable of playing 6, 8 or 10 , it’ll depend I guess on where Derby see their strengths and weaknesses. It’s a super experience for an 18 year old who’s still age wise a 2nd Year Scholar .
He has had five games with Derby already even though he is only with them for a little over a month and had a change in manager to deal with.
He could play another dozen games before the end of the season if he stays fit.

He would not have come close to anything near that if he stayed at Everton.
It could set him up to challenge for us nest season.

….i wonder if he’d have been in competition with Tim Iroegbunam had he stayed.

Ancelotti has now provided some explanation behind that, explaining how three shot-stoppers can be useful.
The boss told Sky Sports: "It's good to give Joao [Virginia] some matchday experience.
"It's also helpful I find to have two goalkeepers for the warm-ups. Above all, when we play away this also helps us avoid problems if there is an injury to the first or second option."

The greatest manager of his era disagrees with that.
Make Begovic a player-coach, leave him off the bench, he can still do warm ups as a coach. I maintain, having a player on the bench that you definitely won't play serves no purpose.

Same logic for sticking a 17 year old on there, who also won't play.
Agreed, we need better players in the squad, so we have 9 options for changing a game. Defending having two keepers on the bench is a sideshow to the real issue. Since we don't have that currently, giving a young kid, who hopefully will play for us one day, a proper match day experience now and again seems more valuable than having a very experienced goalkeeper, who is definitely not playing, on the bench. But yeah, ideally one goalkeeper and eight outfield players who can actually contribute on the pitch should be the goal. No matter what Ancelotti says.

You see, like Carlo, I can see the logic.

We don't need 9 subs on the bench when most games managers only make 3.

I know people won't agree and that's fine.

We all have our own views.

Yh. Ppl seem to forget it's only a few years ago we had 5 on the bench and 3 subs, then 7/3. Most of them won't get on, and the only one that is most irreplaceable if you end up with 2 injuries etc in the same position is GK, so I really don't mind it/see why ppl get such a bee in their bonnet about it. Also taking an extra youth player for the experience may often also mean them missing their own game, so debatable which is the more benficial there. Disgaree sure, but to see it constanly being brought up smacks of ppl just wanting to complain about something imo.

Link me to the games where a goalkeeper was injured/sent off, then the substituted goalkeeper was injured/sent off. I'm sure it has happened but I honestly can't remember a single occasion. In the days of 5 subs on the bench, quite a few managers would gamble on not having a keeper on the bench at all. Now it's apparently common sense to have 2/9 subs as GKs. Not for me, and most teams don't do it.

Edit: just realised this is in the players on loan thread, not sure how I got onto this subject. Soz mods.
