would have been Mirallas by a mile until that penalty miss, his form and attitude has dipped massively since

I think, barring the first few weeks of the season, Jagielka has been our most consistent performer

I would agree there. One failing I would say we have as a collective fanbase is that we turn on players very quickly for any mistake. The penalty fiasco, bad as it was, has been well overblown.

Spot on. Naisy is a fair shout - you know he will always give 110%

On statistics, you'd have to agree it's Rom. Take his goals away and we'd be in the relegation zone.

Spot on.

For me it's the other way around, but yours is a perfectly reasonable call.

I'd go for Romelu myself, with Naismith and Mirallas tied in second place. Without Rom we'd be in the drop zone, no question. We're only three points above it now!

If Kev had Stevie's heart and work ethic, he'd be a £20m player; if Stevie had Kev's talent he'd also be a £20m player. Martinez plays Stevie out of position regularly and he also subs Kev off way too often, but they are our second and third top scorers despite this.

McCarthy has been solid but not spectacular - he needs to start putting in some decent forward passes or carrying the ball forward more. Besic would merit consideration if he got more game time; Stones has the talent but needs to impose himself more and start dominating games.

Coleman, Baines, Barry and Barkley are shadows of the players they were last year. Jags has been overall mediocre, and was very, very poor from week one until about Christmas.

Well done to McGeady for convincing his wife and parents to log in and vote.

We would be right in it without Lukaku's goals against West Ham,Hull & Palace & Naismith's goals against Leicester (home & away) & Man City

By the same logic, we'd be flying high without T-How doing his best mong impression. We are were we are - a mid table side that's not threatening to challenge for the title. Sadly, it's been that way since the late 80's.

I think it's fair to say that Besic would have won this poll comfortably if Chicoazul's persistent Besic bashing hadn't made the weak minded amongst us doubt his talent.

I've plumped for Lukaku for his goals in a difficult season, especially for his EL form. Naismith would be my 2nd choice. Young player of the year Stones followed by Garbutt or Robles. Gashest player of the year goes to Howard followed by Barry, Alcaraz, Distin and any other you care to mention.

18 votes for Besic.

Some of our fanbase has an unhealthy obsession with him. He's hardly played and when he has he's been great on occasion and average or sloppy at other times. I'm certainly not slagging him off or writing him off, i'm simply saying he's 100% not been our best performer. It's embarrassing he's even mentioned.

I bet if i questioned these people they'd be the same ones begging Deulofeu to come back. Deulofeu will make it all better...he got 3 assists for us, the same as the worst player in history McGeady has this season.

It's been a dreadful season for all at times, it's as simple as this...without Lukaku we'd be in big big trouble.

There are no stand out candidates though. You mention Lukaku but he's scored 7 league goals aside from his pen, he also scored an own goal and gave possession away so badly twice that he was directly responsible for 2 other goals we conceded. (He's done very well in other competitions though to be fair).

If you were to give players a mark out of 10 for every performance then Besic would probably have one of the highest averages.
