Any "jazz" snobs on here? Haven't seen any yet, which is a great thing imo as they tend to dismiss rock musicians as below their consideration...some good comments and reccomendations here on a thread which although started as a Pink Floyd one has veered off discussing other bands and genres...love it !!

I’m not a jazz snob, infact I much prefer rock music generally speaking but rock fans (particularly the older ones) are some of the most dismissive people about when it comes to other genres, if it hasn’t got a piss stained crusty old man playing guitar then it’s not real music.... at least high level jazz musicians have the talent level to warrant being smug tw@s, I’ve lost count of the amount of rock fans who think peak musicianship is Rush.

There's an odd(ly likeable) trend on Youtube that has black Americans with typical black-american music taste listen to legendary white rock bands for the first time.

I'm not normally one for reaction-video culture but there's something uplifting about seeing someone discover the Floyd for the first time, and of course the break-in album is the monumental Dark Side of the Moon. In the context of being black american it's especially nice to see the appreciation for something that's frowned upon by the that's cultural appropriation! commentariat: namely the black soul diva stylings of Clare Torry, the sheer funk of Money and the smooth slow-jam of Us & Them, plus of course the soulful use of sax.

Also notable is how quickly popular such videos become, many thousands sub the channel within mere weeks, and this results in some of the nicest, friendliest, informative comment threads below the video (something Youtube's not always known for). The first vid for example was uploaded when the fella had a mere 268 subs...4+ weeks later he has 47,000 subs. Deffo a trend!

When I was a kid we visited my cousins in Cambridge, we got stoned in a punt and went to Granchester meadows, probably literally exactly what they would have done loads of times (hence the song title).
