Pigs in the trough, again

Nice one Summers the title fits the crime, not so long ago it was ' The top four' their need for greed is abhorrent.
What would be funny, is it, say Arsenal or Liverpool (or any of the others tbh) finish sixth next season, but closer to seventh than fifth. Does it then become the big seven?

Of course not!

Only a matter of time before the big clubs want a bigger share of the PL money on offer as is the case in Spain, not sure about other leagues. Also as has been said I believe a European Super League is about when not if.

The PL would reject that then as the Spanish league is tediously predictable. This year was the first year anyone in the PL had scored 100 goals, that is more common than not in La Liga. I only went back 6 years but in those years two teams (guess who) both scored more than 100 in each season. Often over 110 and sometimes over 120.
Gone back further - 2008 was the last time at least one team didn't get 100 goals.

Be careful what you wish for. Liverpool want it now but with a new deal they'll fall even further behind United, City and Arsenal.

Lets be honest football at the top level is dead and has been since 1992 - Man City and PSG have only since buried it with their state sponsored backing.

I would personally love the 14 other clubs and rest of the football league to breakaway and start over without the 'top 6'. As always the majority hold the power but are scared of the minority with the wealth so bumble along in fear.

Teams breaking away to form a European Super League would inevitably result in more 'FC United of Manchester's'. You'd have tiny away attendances and the stadiums would be full of even more tourists. Let them do it. Then once it collapses, they have to start at the bottom of the football pyramid again, all while Everton are dominating the Premier League ;)

That ain’t the case, though.

The 20 clubs in the EPL at any given time have equal voting rights and have often voted down proposals from the “big 2”, “big 4”, “big 6” or whatever numeral is flavour de jour on Sky.

The RS floated this idea a few years ago....only that time they wanted just themselves and United to get more money from the pot.

United wouldn’t wear it.

It is significant it is only the “overseas” money he is talking about.....I suspect that TV deal might come under diferent rules than domestic rights.

And even he got his way.....how long before he is talking about how the RS and United generate more TV revenues than Chelsea and Spurs so he is wanting more than they get?

It just seems fellows like John Henry are insatiable when it comes to money.

To feed a beadt like him is madness.

I think what is more likely to happen is the top European leagues get more champions league places, they already made it so the 4th place team dont have to qualify anymore, next time it comes up again in 2021, they will announce that the top 4 leagues (England, Spain, Germany and Italy), will each get 5 places and their teams wont have to qualify got the Europa league, so each country will have 8 teams in the group stages across the Champions League and Europa League. This will mean that teams from smaller nations will have to go through more qualifying rounds. But it will give Uefa a product worth more to television companies, as their will be more high profile games. I think they will also try to move the semi finals to the weekends.

5 for the CL? Not until we take 4th it won't.

YOU F****** HYPOCRITES!!!!! OUR OWN CLUB WAS ONE OF THE 12 FOUNDING MEMBERS OF THE LEAGUE AND ONE OF THE BIGGEST REASONS BEHIND THE EXISTENCE OF THE PROFFESIONAL FOOTBALL!!!!
WE WERE "PLASTIC" BEFORE ACTUAL PLASTIC CAME IN EXISTENCE!!!!
WE FOUNDED THE FOOTBALL LEAGUE AS THE MEANS OF EARNING MORE MONEY AND HELPED IN ESTABLISHING PREMIER LEAGUE AS THE MEANS FOR EARNING EVEN MORE MONEY, BUT WHEN LFC WANTS MORE MONEY THAN US, THAN IT ISN'T ETHICAL????

IF ANY CLUB HELPED IN MAKING FOOTBALL BUSINESS IT IS EVERTON!!

AND I AM PROUD OF IT!!!!!!!!!!!!

P.S. I hope that we can catch the train for that paneuropean league.

I could live with that (not the bit about weekend semi finals, though).

Yes, I have no issue with more teams from the major countried being involved in the Group stages, provided it is not automatic entry for those clubs, but is dependent on them finishing high enough up their domestic league table.

I`m surprised it`s taken this long for the snake to reveal his colours tbh.

He`s obviously feeling emboldened by their Champions League success :hayee:

He's argued this point on a number of occasions. Most recently was shortly after the fans walked out over ticket prices.

No one would watch a European league, the group stages of the CL are proof of this. The only show anyone would be watching would be what remained of the PL. These idiots really will kill the exact thing that creates the revenue they are so desperate for.

These are owners who want to compete for everything to keep the fan base quiet but don’t want to spend any money to do it so want guaranteed European entry, no domestic competition, and a closed European league purely for untapped markets not yet bored with a sport where there is no competition. The stupid fool doesn’t even realise that if he pulls it off it will end the champions league and invalidate their ‘5 times’.

How are the group stages proof that no one would watch a Euro League? The draw is made in such a way the biggest clubs go thru to the next round, only occasionally is there a shock. 2 big teams in with 2 lesser sides in each group doesn’t make it the most interesting as most people know which 2 will go through before a ball is kicked. Look at the teams in pot4, most people will have no interest in them games when the likes of Barca or Madrid will play APOEL, Maribor or Qarabag. Alternatively, I couldn’t see many people watching Cardiff v Huddersfield, or Watford v Burnley in the Prem. Without doing any research, I would suggest that the viewing figures for the group stages would be well down compared to the last 16. I would also suggest the proof a Euro League would be watched, would be when the competition gets interesting in the last 16.

Ps. I also think a Euro League would kill football in this country. But, I would watch it! You only have to look on the threads on here to see how many of us watch European football. We’re football fans, that’s what we do. But without any sort of vested interest it would be extremely difficult.
