Pienaar to return?

Neon's totally nailed it for me to be honest, he'll have my full support while he's in blue, but that cloud hangs over him.

Wonder if that same cloud would hang over Arteta if he ever came back on loan, seeing as they both left in similar circumstances.

First off he gets taxed on that so it's half that figure. Of course a million pound is a lot of money. But to a footballer already earning millions in endorsements and sponsorships maybe not so much.
What does an extra million get you in way of quality of life if you've already got 40 million in the bank? A few cars? Another holiday home?

If he was put on earth to play football, and God has given him (and I use the rhetoric of monotheism because he seems to believe in that) this great talent to play football—why gamble first team football in an environment you've proven to be productive in to sit on a bench and play about 300 minutes of football (over the whole of last year) during the very zenith of your creative and physical talents?

The cliché of course contains a kernel of truth. It is a short career, football. When he sits down and talks to his grandchildren they can ask him about the goals he scored when he was 28 and he can tell them he was polishing the spurs bench with his arse whilst counting the pound signs.

Give me a player with medals and trophies in their eyes not pound signs.

Theres no way Pienaar has got 40m in the Bank, hes not as rich as you assume.

Your saying he should have waved goodbye to 1m after tax? Are you really that naive? Would you do it?

Your assuming he moved solely for money, whether you like it or not Spurs are a "bigger" Club than us now, they have surpassed us, they are challenging for the Title and have tasted Champions League football.

Im an Everton fan, but if Spurs wanted to pay me 1m extra and give me a bigger platform to showcase my talents, I would be off like a rat up a drainpipe.

You have this image that footballers are this rich and all consuming person.

They are just normal people, magnified.

I honestly dont see why people cant see the reasons he moved, if it was money, we all need money, anybody that says they would have stayed at Everton, kissed goodbye to an extra mill needs to check themselves in for a CAT scan ASAP.

We've played mostly awful football since he left so we need him as much as he needs us right now. I'm looking forward to seeing him play for us as I want to see play us better attacking football.

One thing overlooked is the effect on Baines who of late hasn't been his usual self and showing visible signs of frustration on the pitch. We won't know if that's a precursor to asking for a move away but it's plausible as he's not progressing at Everton. Hopefully having Pienaar back on the left with him will be a positive effect on him again and make it look like Everton is an ace place to play that soccer stuff.

We've got some really good options both on the sides of midfield and across the midfield in general. Real technical ball players. Interesting half a season ahead if we utilise them properly.

As said he left to go to a club challanging for CL and the top end of the prem. He also got offered more money to do this!?!?

Boo hoo !!

Get over it, he wasn't born a blue, gave his all till the day he went... It didn't work out and now he's back!

Happy days...

PS Arteta got 70k a week because he was a really special player who if we sold were always gonna get big money for

Thank god for some sense, and i am pretty sure he thought he was going to play and not sit on the bench.

This will be the problem.

Arteta cut his wages to play at Arsenal though, didn't he? I remember reading something about it.

Regardless, Arteta wasn't being a giant **** about it in the papers and he went over to clap our away supporters when we were at the Emirates before taking a corner. Don't really have too much hatred against him to be honest.

No he didn't, he got the same wage, with a longer contract.

What Brian said. Also wanted to leave the year before, pleading with Kenwrong to let him go.

But anyways that's off topic, it just shows how different people can look at players with opinions already formed about them. For the record I like both of them.

Yeah i think LCAB mentioned that he was almost in tears pleading to leave.

Would I do it? You're asking an Evertonian? Course I would.

And of course he moved for money. If he had any decent advisors they would've told him he'd never have made it at Spurs—for starters it doesn't have the intimate family club vibe that he needs to thrive in. Secondly he was never going to be considered a major player there. Who was he going to displace, Bale?
And there's no way Spurs is a bigger platform when your bought as a back up to Lennon, Bale or one of the other 60 midfield players they have.

Many high profile footballers make double what their salaries bring in with sponsorship and advertising deals. Given that Pienaar is probably the countries most successful footballer still playing and he's captained his country, he's a fairly big deal in South Africa and thus commands an even higher premium of sponsorship money.

But of course it's his choice. And these sponsorships can be a double edged sword. I wouldn't be surprised if Puma have been trying to renegotiate his contract after he's not been playing. The presumption is he wants first team football because he loves the game. Maybe his sponsors demanded it.

Considering the way Arteta played in the season before and his age, we got a fair price for Arteta—in large part because he didn't run his contract down and refuse to sign anything like Pienaar. That and all the years of service and I find it hard to be angry with him. And of course it was a logical move. He was going somewhere where he would get to play champions league football. I mean actually play it. Not be in the reserves of a squad that is playing it.

I don't understand the dislike for the man some people on here seem to have. He's not an Evertonian, he honoured his contract without whining to the media, played his heart out even when he knew he was leaving, went to a side competing in the Champions League and got payed more money to do it. What's so wrong with that?

Also, I've heard, from my reliable sources, that it looked like Bale was going to AC Milan so they bought Pienaar as a replacement but the Milan deal fell through. I bet he was told when he signed for Spurs he would be playing regularly if Bale left, which looked very likely at the time.
