Pienaar in a pinch

Good points all and cheering me up at the same time!
I still think DM will go with Rodders and Phil in the middle, Osman and Pieman out wide. Cahill and Jo up top. Back 4 of TH, PJ, JL, LB.
Bench of Nash, VDM, Yobo, Saha, Fellaini, Castillo, Lars.

When we got Jo on loan Davie was saying how he is an option on the left, so I think once Saha gets going again we may see that.

My preference for the middle would now be Osman and Rodwell. I know Pips being doing brilliantly, but I think that was very much down to a partnership with Arteta, which I've never seen him manage with anyone else in there.

It's frustrating that so many squad players at the moment seem to have half fitness. Who is capable of 60 minutes let alone an hour?

Er...

Given the quality of the upcoming opposition i'd be tempted to give VDM a go in Artetas role, but only if Pienaar/Osman are back from injury.

Van der Meyde should've been brought on for Anichebe, Castillo wasn't really needed despite having a decent game, we already had Rodwell and Neville on the pitch.

With Arteta out he should play more of a part as he does offer at bit of quality in the final third and he can be creative. I doubt we'll see it happen though.

I thought he was dire.. ponderous, uncomfortable on the ball, lost count of the number of runners that left him from the middle of the park. Had high hopes for him, but he's never had the opportunity to acclimatise to the Prem, and I thought it really showed today.

Its an option i wouldnt be against looking at, hes very much a pass and move player, different from Arteta in the sense hes not so much a bal carrier or retainer.

Some of his passing has questionable of late, but like Dutch i remember he did well there playing for Ajax.

I thought Castillo was decent, he looked better on the ball than before. He plays the simple ball but I'd rather that than him giving it away. Solid in the air and gets in the way. Bare in mind he's come from a very different league and most players are given a season or so to acclimatise.

To be sure losing Arteta for the season is a major blow.
But I just don't buy the line that we have no options.
We have six regulars chasing four places at the back and nine players chasing four or five places in midfield (I've counted Neville for both). Even if we relegate Castillo, Gosling and Rodwell to the bench that still leaves us with six players chasing five - or more likely four places in the middle. Two - Cahill and Fellaini are best suited for central mf/attacking role. Two more - Osman and Pienar can play left or central mf. Osman can also play on the right. Neville and at a pinch Fellaini can play the holding role.
All of which just leaves us looking for someone as cover on the right.
What we really need is someone who can play wide, run at defenders and drag defences out to the flag from where he can fire in pinpoint crosses straight to one of out less experienced youngsters.
Ah ok...point taken. We could be obliged to field an academy side and he still wouldn't get a start.. :D

We have anpther Pennant fan on our hands here Neb!

Any thoughts of Osman pulling any strings should laughed right out of town . He isnt THAT player and never will be . Pienaar is the man

Moyes was asked about using Pienaar centrally after the West Brom game, he didn't seem keen on the idea. He said he does a good job for us outwide and it suited to that position.

If he's going to play wide left then I think it's a must that we get players who can play off him and link up. Someone who's on his wavelength so to speak. At the moment we have our two most creative players on opposite sides of the pitch and two defensive midfielders seperating them, the balance doesn't really work.

Hopefully we'll see Leon Osman or Tim Cahill moved into a more central position, I'm sure we'll get the best out of Pienaar then aswell as the players mentioned.
