I believe it, no-one knows how to use a lithium battery (I have a unique skill in that I know an awful lot about the largest lithium ion batteries in the world).

People are incredibly rough and borderline negligent in caring for Li-Ion batteries, rarely charging them correctly and when they need it. A properly cared for battery will have a life of years versus a life of a year like normal people's do.

And to add (not a specific dig at an iPhone, but any phone with an integrated battery), it gets very expensive when abusing a battery in a phone with it built in.....
 
reveal this knowledge from the depths oh wise one, surely if the subs running low and you've forgot your charger then you can just sit in a current. or even the black lace method..... do do doooooooooo, come on lets do the conga. i know that was eely bad.

I know, but i'm happy with the iPhone and that's what's important.
 
I'll never, ever get a contract phone.

£10 = unlimited O2 Texts, with the £10 remaining for bolt ons (or use as cred)
or
£15 = unlimited O2 Texts & Calls, with the £15 remaining for bolt ons (or use as cred)

Does the job for me.

I'd also suggest http://yourfamily.o2.co.uk/familybolton

1 person tops up £7.50, selects 5 numbers and all 5 (provided they are with o2) get unlimited calls and texts between each other. 1 person can also top up £12.50 and the group then extends to 10. Ideal if you have partner/kids, you just top up £7.50 and you/ hey all have free texts/calls between eachother - meaning no "I had no credit so couldn't call you..."

I'd also suggest O2 - O2 Your Family Bolt On: keep the ones you love in the loop.

Well it's the getting of the phone which is the cost with non-contract phones.

I suppose it all comes down to how much I am probably going to spend, which is unknown really, and whether or not I am happy with my brand - which I am.

Think I'm going to get the new phone but after I have settled my latest bill.
 
I dunno about over there, but all the contract does is subsidize the cost of the phone. The contract and subsidized phone end up costing more than an unlocked phone and service over the period of the contract. Contracts....cheaper at the start, more expensive by the end.

Ok well lets work it out - for iPhone users anyway.

£45 contract over 24 months is what £1000 approx.
phone is free and I get 1200 mins and 500 texts.

PAYG I have to pay £449.00 for the phone (I know, that is shockingly high) and I still have to pay £30 a month to get the same allowance.

So if we put all prejudices aside for the iPhone and it's cost - the more cost effective method is to go with the contract.

Anyone else got an example of their phone and costs?

I think the iphone is the exception Ghost.

But in truth, I could still manage to get an iPhone cheaper on PAYG on 02 - using packages because I'd need 1000+ texts a month. All boils down to your usage. I pay £90/£120 a year, for unlimited texts and calls, on a decent enough Nokia.

So iPhone on PAYG for £449 + £120 = £569 a year.
iPhone on Contract, £1080 2 years, = £540 a year.

I'd sooner pay the extra £29 a year, to have the flexibility and unlimited calls and texts, rather than 500 texts and 1200 minutes.

But again, boils down to your usage.

It's only a slight difference, and its affordability today, a free phone now is better for me.

As I say, its all about usage.

For my usage;

PAYG iPhone £449 (phone) + £120 (o2 PAYG usage package) = £569 a year.

Contract iPhone £0 (phone) + £900 usage (£75 a month/24 month contract) = £900 a year. (I'd need the minutes)

PAYG would save me £331 a year, and I would have a better quota.

But for you, the contract does sound better.

Well yeah, I an afford to get a free phone now? and pay an extra £15 a month for the next two years. I can't afford to spend £400 for a phone today.

It's all about spreading costs - why pay more now when you don't have to?
