Most Arsenal fans seem to think Senderos is decent, they hate Silvestre as well tho.

yep anyone who knows any arsenal fan will tell you that senderos is actually quite liked at the emirates.
many have said that theres 2 or 3 players that should be sold ahead of him.

just to note ......... 'if' the deal goes through i dont think he would be a replacement for lescott or even just 'backup' as some of you put it.

is jags back up for lescott and yobo ?
is yobo back up for lescott and jags ?

no no and no. like our other 3 cb's , senderos is another defencive option .whoever trains and plays the best gets the starting place.

to stand any chance of acheiving equal or more than last season we need quality competition for places , not 'back up' players.

True. Either way we NEED another defender as Jags aint really gonna be 100% till Christmas and anything can happen between August and then, so a defender is needed.

A player with undoubthed potential but needs to get his head right, could be a fixer uper of a signing Moyes is renowned for.

I think im right in saying he had a choice between Utd and Arsenal before he eventually signed for Arsenal. Talent is there.

This is translated from Swiss paper Le Matin:

Senderos signs for Everton

With Liverpool's second club, Philippe Senderos will have the opportunity to show his skills. The international defender, who Wenger didn't really count on lately at Arsenal, wanted to continue with his career in England. With Everton he has found an ideal club to recover all of his best form.

Philippe Senderos has left Arsenal, where he still had a year's contract left, to join Everton The Swiss national team defender has joined the Toffees after a year on loan at Milan. Aged 24, Senderos joined Arsenal in 2003. The duration of the contract and the transfer fee have not been revealed.
Aston Villa and Sunderland were also interested
Courted as well by both Aston Villa and Sunderland, Philippe Senderos has been named to replace Everton's Joleon Lescott, who is on the brink of signing for Manchester City. Managed by Scot David Moyes, Everton finished fifth last season in the Premier League.
After his departure from Milan AC, who didn't want to take up the option of purchasing him, Philippe Senderos wanted to continue his in Englang. With Everton he has without a doubt discovered the ideal team to recover his form in a World Cup year.
Despite two noteworthy seasons in 2005 and 2006, Philippe Senderos only too rarely benefited from the full trust of Arsène Wenger at Arsenal. The Alsation showed that he wasn't planning on counting on him for the coming season when he recruited Belgian Thomas Vermaelen last month. Despite the departure of Kolo Touré for Manchester City, the position of Senderos at Arsenal appeared extremely tenuous.
Everton - Arsenal
Philippe Senderos won't have long to think about the good memories with Arsène Wenger. On the first day of the Premier League, Everton are welcoming Arsenal at their Goodison Park home.

It does look like this deal has been done, or is going to be done soon.
He's a decent player and is still relatively young in defender terms. I hope he is a backup, and not a replacement for Lescott though.

Yeah, this is a done deal - can't imagine the FA of a respected nation like Switzerland be making up fibs.

Wonder if he's good-to-go?... Hasn't played in their last few friendlies, so might take a few weeks to get up to speed - still a good signing though (providing that Joleon's staying as well)

Call me cynical but I think Lescotts hours at this the greatest football club in the world are numbered . Senderos as his replacement isnt ideal but its better than having nobody . Crucially he has alot of Premier league experience .

I think Senderos, if he comes, will be great for the extra european matches that we will play.
He has more experience in europe then any of our defenders and having 4 top CB's competing against each other would help keep them all fit and rested.
