I think the major issue of the story is not actually the grotesque affairs and grooming. It's actually that ITV covered it up since 2019 and left the young person involved vulnerable to an abuse of power because it didn't want it's biggest star scandalised and the show destroyed.

100% - this has basically been a drip, drip media campaign so far which suggest it has been planned beforehand.

As a completely unrelated aside, if this is what Schofield did then it should be contrasted with what Simon Danczuk did (attempt to groom a teenager by offering them a job) - which resulted in no punishment whatsoever.
