Perfect Squad Depth...

Assuming we get Atsu, going with two more. A striker and an attacking/creative type.

I think that would do us nicely mate as that brings us to -

Barry
Besic
Lukaku
Striker
Attacking/creative

Then adding to the u21's fringes of 1st team squad
Galloway
Henen

Promoting from u21's into 1st team squad
Garbutt

And i think Martinez would say that was a squad with depth. I think he will still get the 7 players in he originally said we needed, just that 2 of them like Henen and Galloway won't be for the 1st team but 5 of them will.

The rb cover I assume will be besic with either Barry or Gibson for the dm role he vacates,as regards a winger then Atsu will take that role,it's cover for Lukaku that needs addressing and Roberto's right on the case, just who that will be is any ones guess.
Yes we have sufficient strength in depth more so with the quality of our youngsters who will make the break through this season.
RB cover will be Hibbert, he also signed a new contract in the summer not that anyone noticed!

Posted this in the transfer thread but realised it has more of a place here

I assume that it'll be Atsu and a striker that's brought in, but the best semi-realistic case for me would be 3 loans with options to buy:

  • Atsu, who looks a cert
  • Remy, who is available on loan according to some and wouldn't even be too ridiculously expensive to buy by all accounts
  • Kagawa, who is in a difficult situation as he's not impressed at Man Utd and they are without European football this season to get regular football (on top of this, Van Gaal has already said they have too many "10s").
Leaving us with these teams:

First 11:

Second 11 (Cup and Europe):

Those two teams don't even include some very useful players: Naismith, Duffy, Long, Kone, Garbutt etc

Obviously the Second 11 may not look that strong to everyone, but that's without using a single player from our First 11 (which would obviously be the case, but this is just to show our potential squad depth).

I've probably missed one of our best players out somehow but you get the picture.

If Kone, Alcaraz, Hibbert and Robles were replaced with better quality players I think that team would do alright for itself.
I think Hibbo will actually surprise some of us. He's still in great shape I think, he's just been very defensive his whole career, partially due to his manager. Give him a few months to show Martinez's influence, and I think he'll show that he's more like Sagna than a big CB.

In the knowledge that we now have Gibson, McGeady, Mirallas, Naismith, McCarthy, Besic, Barry, Barkley, Atsu and Pienaar all available to play in midfield, I will be so pissed off when Osman turns out in the starting eleven.

He's [Poor language removed] lad.
