he was the heartbeat of the side. Great player. Always remember my dad telling my mum that he loved brace more than her. And always would!!

The way I remember it, it wasnt a broken leg.

He broke his ankle and the bone flaked away, and it was the flake they couldnt find that caused him to break down again and again.

THIS^

It was a small piece of floating bone. It was causing inflammation and swelling after matches. Apparently, we didn't have the medical technology at the time in the UK to pick it up. So after about two years, the club sent him to see a specialist in the USA, which at the time was a big deal going all that way, and very expensive. They found and removed the piece of floating bone, by which time he was just never the same player, coupled with the fact that the team was breaking up anyway due to the Euro ban. Brace was one of my favorite players. Him and Reidy used to hunt in tandem in that midfield. Bracewell had a great engine and was technically very strong with a great first touch. He could twist and turn, read the game really well and pick a pass.

Spot on mate, a very underated player Bracewell, i honestly believe if it wasn`t for that injury he would have played for England for years, he doesn`t get the credit he deserves for his big part of our success in the mid eighties.

Anyone who was actually awake and not high watching him in the mid 80s will remember he dominated matches and imposed himself on other midfields.

WTF is going on with solid job, un-noticed, and worst of all the Osman comparison ?

Was a ****house of a tackle. Revenge was a dish served up as the next course as I remember, wasn't Marwood involved somewhere ? was he his Union rep or something ?

Marwood did Inchy Heath at Goodison playing for Sheff Weds when Inchy was on the verge of an England call up,then Reidy went straight through Marwood in the same game in retribution, that was the way our team worked back then,we would play you at football but if you wanted to mix it we'd do that too,Brace was my idol in that team of "no stars" for me,the heartbeat of our great team, could play it short or long, great tackler and reader of the game,as someone earlier said,Bloody Billy Whitehurst!!not fit to share the same pitch as Brace!!

An absolute animal of a player who ended Bracewells career - an horrific tackle I believe it was - Bracewell was the corner stone of our midfield at that time we suffered by missing him the team faded without him!

Osman is not in the same class as a footballer as Paul Bracewell was. As for him being "our stand-out" player you're having a laugh surely!

Where have I said he was our stand-out player ? What I was intimating at , was the fact that he was one of those players who go unnoticed by other teams fans. For example, think of Barcelona....Who's name comes to your head ?
