Our sponsorship with Chang (or lack of)

To be honest when we started to be sponsored by Chang, I had never heard of them and I thought that they were going to use us to expand their brand across th uk and then worldwide.

But I think it's about 9 years now since Chang started their sponsorship deal with us and I still only see it occasionally in Thai restaurants or on special offer in supermarkets. They must be getting something out of it in the Asian markets though....

It doesn't bother me who sponsors the team really, just as long as the club get the best deal. Obviously it would be cool if they had a premium brand like Jaguar, rather than a value brand like Aldi

Chang sponsor us to raise their profile, not in Thailand but in other countries. Chang is already a huge brand in Thailand and one of the 2 main beers. Thais do seem to prefer Singha though, as the Chang in Thailand is very strong.
By having pictures of Ryan Giggs instead of Fellaini on a Bangkok building, Chang are not letting us down in any way as that is not the purpose of their sponsorship.
And to put it in a bit of context, when I first went to Thailand 8 years ago, none of the market stalls had an Everton top, but when I went back about 3 years ago round about half did. So I would say our profile has definitely improved

There's the old saying that we used in aviation (but is probably used across industries) that would apply to football management...

How do you make a million pounds in football? Start with 10 million.

this has been discussed ad nauseum but there is no way that the deal with Chang is the best the team can get imo. I honestly believe its a choice of 'why bother looking when they are paying XYZ'.

I've been to Bangkok numerous times. The article is right - you wouldn't know there is a link between EFC and Chang except for seeing the odd fake shirt among all the Chelsea and Man U shirts. The line about Chang's major product being water is just pure shoite though. Chang beer is everywhere and is drunk everywhere. It and Singha are the local market leaders, with some cheap stuff called Leo also selling at the bottom end of the market. Didn't ever see the Giggs posters everywhere but not doubting him on that.

As has already been pointed out, Chang isn't paying to promote Everton, but there's bound to be a bit more EFC exposure
because a lot of people in Thailand follow and watch the Premier League and it's bound to attract some of the uncommitted.

I'd like to see the club get more from the shirt sponsor, but I have mixed feelings about changing, no pun intended.

I go around Melbourne a lot in my Everton jacket with Chang across my back, and I'd have to fork out for a new one.

I tell everyone that the Everton ones had sold out.

Yeah I'm the same. Not entirely sure what Chang get out of it as you can barely buy it anywhere. My local Tesco in manchester city centre has it in a special 'foreign beers' section, and Walrus in the Northern Quarter sells the bottles but I've never seen it anywhere else apart from a world beers shop in leeds!
