Our potential right side

Every good PL side has two decent players in every position. On the right, when fit, we have Coleman, Kenny, Bolasie and Lennon. So yep, no worries there I think.

The left, though, is another matter, but there is potential perhaps in a year or two's time with Antonee Robinson and Lookman. We need experienced cover at LB quick-ish though to cover the decline of Baines, before the younger brigade steps up.
Also Brendon Galloway?

No mate, it's time to admit we need a starter at left back as Baines has aged and doesn't look capable of playing the modern fullback role any more at this level.

Coleman will be fine. Ramsey recovered ok didn't he? No idea where the banned poster has got "knock out blow" from.

Personally, as much as I like Lennon as a chap (determination) and for his energy, I don't think he's a great footballer.

Has to be Yannick imo.

Martina for me.

Baines/Martina + Bolasie/Mirallas on the left
Coleman/Kenny + Lennon/Lookman/Ramirez on the right

Think Coleman + Ramirez could be a good pairing when we need more forward threat. Lennon for when we expect to defend more.

Kenny's development is great because you never know if a player will come back from a big injury the same. Knowing Coleman though, I reckon he'll be fine. Honestly would like to see Kenny considered at left-back to manage Baines's game time / have options if he continues to be crap.

Bolasie is a big concern for me, his entire game relies on his pace and unpredictability, the type of injury he's has could very well have stripped him of a lot of that and without it, he won't offer much. But again, hoping for the best, he'll be a great option on either wing for us if so.

He was ok for us though?

False dawn mate, started well, then struggled and got benched and was never seen again under Martinez, next manager came in and saw nothing in him as well, Pullis saw nothing in him and he ended up not even making match-day squads at west brom, now two managers at Sunderland have deemed him not good enough to be starting week in week out when they are terrible.

Reckon our wide options are nicely stocked with Bolasie, Lookman, Lennon and Sandro. If Vlasic can keep his width then he'd be a potential fit as well. Obviously left back position needs a long-term fix, be it in January or in the summer.
Personally, I think Luke Garbutt could surprise a few come January if he's put back into the 25 man squad (he's 24 now so can't just be called up on a whim). However, he's been putting some really solid performances together at U23 level, and could be a good stop gap until the summer when we can properly reassess our options.
