Never understood this English tax thing...

We overpay because we're corrupt more than other countries (who are corrupt themselves)
We overpay because we dont go for players who have clauses. If there is aplayer with a clause, we'd literally say OK HIS CLAUSE IS 8MILLION? WE'LL GIVE YOU 30MILLION.

I understand teams will want more from English clubs but lets be honest, we probably dont even try and negotiate

It's only really for the top clubs who don't produce many Englishmen from their academy. They have to comply with their home grown quota so get held to ransom when buying utterly turd players. I mean city may as well stick with stones instead of buying ake.

Chelsea getting Lewis Dunk for £40m. Solid defender but not sure he's Top 4 / Champions League quality.
Dunk is alright, 40m though...?
And people think we wouldn't get anything for Keane when Dunk is going for £40 million
Some people were saying sell him for 10m.

Its almost as bad as your sell Bernie for 6m shout.
Keane's a decent player but in the right set up.

Bernard has no output, not cut out for the physicality of the PL and is one of our highest earners.

I would drive Bernard to his next club myself the same for half this squad.
Keane probably ahead of him in the England stakes. Turns 29 in 3 months.
Not for me.

Brands should be on the phone to Chelsea and offering them Keane.

You're missing the point. There is a shortage of genuine English talent, yet there is a set quota for the PL, CL and EL with regards to home grown players.

I'm not saying that it's right - it's not - but it creates a more competitive/restricted market where eligible players are priced at a premium: see Ake and Dunk recently.

It's the same reason why the likes of Green and Richard Wright et al. get/got contracts at certain clubs because it's a simple tick; see Joe Hart above.

The only way to really resolve the issue is increase the quality of the home-grown players (registered at the club AND UK from 17 to 21), so it negates the premium.

Until that happens, you'll get people like Maguire going for absolutely silly money when in reality he's worth less than half his transfer value.

Imagine Thiago going to Liverpool, would be like buying a Bugatti Veyron and driving it at 30mph everywhere.
Seriously what is he going to do in that team - hoof it to Salah/Mane or play it out wide for Alexander-Arnold/Robertson to swing in their 30th cross of the match?
