Other Club Stadium Developments

don't really understand the goal there: they have 75.000 capacity. Do they expect to outsell wembley week in week out?

It's just a cash machine. And the state will be weighing in with the cost.

Not us though, we cant even get a few extra rail carriages after sinking 3/4 of a billion into a stadium.

<On topic by virtue that they've only recently opened up the new Anfield Road stand this season>

I could't help thinking when those celebrations of Murder Inc were taking place that their stadium isn't fit for title winning teams. It's one rag-arsed ugly 'kin stadium.

I know we'd all take a title and be in an inferior stadium to the one we'll move into, but it just struck me - in that context of success on the pitch - what a massive eyesore it is.

I wonder how many of them wished they'd pushed on with a Stanley Park stadium. I think most of them would, more especially now we've got that eye catching state of the art affair down at the docks.

The estimated final capacity of the design in progress for Leeds is approximately 53,000. Bramley Moore is 52,888, so I wouldn’t get too worked over 112 seats difference

No offence, but it looks like a standard mega bowl.

From the land of Gaudi and Dali I would have expected more than just an upgrade from a bowl to a bigger bowl.

Was there no more adventurous designs considered? Was the budget limited?
Miro and Picasso have specialist galleries in the city, they'd have been a little more apt. ;)

And I'm aware of the big cathedral they gave up on for thirty years, he died on the street hit by a tram, the locals thought he was a vagabond. Sad end.

It'll impress because of scale, I suppose.

A disappointment nonetheless IMO.

Then again, I've never been a big fan of our new stadium design. It's a hybrid of futuristic roof and (for me) unimaginative brick facade.

But its a better looking stadium than most because of the location.

Roof design + River Mersey + Liverpool skyline gets our new stadium over the line as far as the wow factor is concerned...again IMO.

It's not an 8 minute heel turn this time, but it's still some going.

So far as leeds go, they've got stanchions to deal with, a lot of em!

There's no contradiction. The design is something I've always said is a hybrid that doesn't work.

But the stadium IS eye-catching as I've said loads of times. And it IS state of the art.

Maybe put your thinking cap on in future before trying to be 'clever'?

Leeds are trying to make Elland Road look near identical to Anfield:

When you see these "extensions" to old stadia, you definitely appreciate the coherence of a new build. I think the only way to truly expand a stadium and maintain aesthetics is to build up a la the San Siro for the 1990 World Cup when they added a new tier.

When they start adding new stands, it all smacks of Auntie Doris's new conservatory...
