..it's all conjecture, Tim. I'm of a view that it's ego. He was Centre of the Everton universe under Martinez, given little or no responsibility when the opposition had the ball and the worlds media was continually told of this 'phenomenal talent'. Koeman wanted much more and even left the lad out at times. The media quotes were not as flattering and he slipped out of international contention.

Many posters have agreed about the abuse he gets. It is a fact that he does. The weight of expectancy on his shoulders from the fans, to then turn to abuse, he has had it for years. As I said yesterday, can have an amazing game, totally run the show, one bad touch, the groaners are off and his shoulders drop. If your mates constantly did that to you, you would react similarly, it's not about money or mental strength, it's just about letting him be. Anyway, I am sure it is people like you who will see him at his best when he leaves, escaping the "fans" he loved.

The abuse isn't an issue. All players will hear groans in their careers. Good job Ross doesn't play in the San Siro or the bernabeu with the white handkerchiefs out. Some rather sensitive souls on here lol
 
I don't think any of us will ever really know what's gone on tbh.

Considering he's a local lad, the rumour mill seems to be locked down pretty tight all things considered :

1. He doesn't get on with Koeman.
2. Koeman doesn't rate him.
3. He wants more money.
4. He wants a fresh challenge.
5. He's in the merde with a local gangster and has to go for his own safety.

Maybe it's a bit of all of those reasons and when you roll them all up together, it's enough for him to want to go.

* I think the gangster rumours are stretching it a bit, as I'm sure his money would buy proper protection / the ability to sort them out.

But he deserves huge abuse when he's next back at GP.

Point 1. Yes he's obviously greedy as he's turned down in excess of 100k a week.

Point 2. He's a good player. Could have been great. But won't be due to severe mental fragility.

Point 3. No idea. Money perhaps. But in this case it's cause he's a total bottler who hasn't the determination to fight for his place or the guts to take responsibility as a senior player.

I disagree largely with the article. We wont miss him.

Agree with everything said here, especially this.

He got no more abuse than anyone else.

What saddens me the most about the whole saga, is that there is a section of the fanbase happy to blame ourselves for a player letting his contract run down then asking to leave.

Despite the fact he had a massive amount of support from the vast majority of fans.

The fact that we're not really one for banners but more than once there was ones with his name on....

So much of this discussion revolves around the assertion that Ross is 'one of our own'
Ross Barkley WAS a blue. . . . . . . . when he was a kid
Once he became a professional footballer any allegiance to a particular club (in a 'fanatical' sense ) went out of the window. This happens with practically every professional. We as fans need to understand this.
He is no more 'one of us' than Gerrard, Fowler, Carragher etc.
He will now become 'Ross Barkley -the ex Everton player.' I'm sorry to see him go, but not gutted. I will watch the rest of his career with no more interest than I have in any other ex Everton player.

And Ross ain't an Everton boys no more, so don't let the door hit your backside on the way out Ross.

I will give a large cathartic boo if he ever rocks up again. Apart from that I am more interested in getting Siggy in and seeing how the rest of the lads doing so see ya round soft lad.

This is a lie, and if you go the game you know it's a lie.

He got more pure bile from the fans than any player I can think of in my life in fact. Not just exasperation at mistakes, but actual frothing at the mouth hatred.

You can deny it if you want and call it a myth, but I - like many others - have seen it first hand, and it should be something acknowledged, even if we're not happy to admit it.

3 or 4 a year I'm only at I'll admit. But I heard 10 times more abuse towards lukaku than Barkley.

Cleverley got literally jeered off as he was subbed. Now I'm definitely no Snivelley fan but this was miles worse than any groans I heard towards Barkley. There were groans when he gave it away playing square. But there were groans when any player cheaply lost the ball. And there will be groans at any PL ground in the country for any player cheaply giving it away. This issue has been ramped up by people with an agenda against our support or against Koeman.
 
Did Ross write this? Between this and "we've gone back to Moyes" thread. I think i'm off here until the season starts. Our fans....
