On This Day;

Tomorrow is the 20th anniversary of Guy Goma day.

…..had to look it up ;);

On 8 May 2006, Congolese-French Guy Goma (born 1969) was mistakenly interviewed on live television in place of technology journalist Guy Kewney. BBC News 24 presenter Karen Bowerman was scheduled to interview Kewney about the Apple Corps v Apple Computerlegal dispute. Goma, who was a business studies graduate from Brazzaville in the Republic of the Congo, came to the BBC to be interviewed for a job as a data cleanser.

The incident became one of the BBC's most widely reported bloopers.

On this day 11th May 1880 Liverpool became a City.

From a Town 1207 - To a City 1880.

Victoria by the Grace of God,

On this day 11th May 1880 Queen Victoria granted a Charter in the form of "Letters Patent" to the township of Liverpool, granting the status of calling itself a city (11-05-1880), as opposed to a mere borough.

By Her Majesty's Command,

City status in the United Kingdom is granted by the monarch of the United Kingdom to a select group of communities. In England and Wales it was traditionally given to towns with diocesan cathedrals. This association between having a cathedral and being called a city was established in the early 1540s when King Henry VIII founded dioceses each having a cathedral in English towns and granted them city status by issuing letters patent.

…14th May, 1894 Blackpool Tower was opened. On a clear day you can see it from the office blocks in Bootle (just reading, you can actually see it from the top of Liverpool Cathedral despite it being 56 miles up the coast);
