I find this opinion a bit weird though because you don't have to watch everything. Watch what you enjoy and forget about the rest. There will be loads of people that enjoy the sports you don't and this is one of the few times they get to see them on a World stage.

I enjoy having loads of random sports involved as I get to see stuff I'd never pay attention to normally (or even have the chance to should I want to)

It doesn't work that way if I have an antenna, but not 16 cable channels, and turn on the standard coverage on NBC.

Good things do come out of what current coverage looks like. My kid stayed up with me on Saturday to watch the skateboard coverage, not because he does that sort of thing, but because he found it interesting.

That said, if I'm watching on a single channel like we did back in the '80s, I'd just as soon not have USA-France in basketball pool play on for two hours, despite the compelling ending to that one. I'd rather watch some guy deck another guy in freestyle, despite personally only being good at the sort of wrestling that the Olympics calls 'scholastic' and excludes from the Olympics.

I can't speak for NBC but the coverage here in the UK on BBC has been limited by Discovery who bought the rights and restricted access. BBC are only allowed to show two live events at once. As a result they pretty much only show mainstream Olympic events unless Britain has a chance at a medal. It's basically all been swimming and rowing, bit of gymnastics. Once the athletics starts I'm sure it will pretty much be exclusively that.

The niche sports like horse dancing have been on for about 20 minutes when they show the British medal hopes. We're going to get a bit of shooting soon apparently as we have a guy involved in that.

The issue with the Olympics is not too many sports, it's bad coverage. Saying that I paid £7 for a months access to Eurosport+ and I can watch every single event. I imagine in the US you can do the same with Discovery+. That's really not a bad deal for over 2 weeks of almost constant coverage

Jess Fox absolutely smashed that. All the mistakes she made in the kayak final didn't appear in that run. Fair play to Mallory Franklin she flew out and really put the pressure on those who went after her.

Even without her two-second penalty, she'd have been a good two seconds behind Fox, which is a great score.

The GB ladies have absolutely bottled that 7s game then, 21-0 up on New Zealand and they go and lose it 26-21 in the final seconds

Turkish volleyballers. Thank me later.
