He was a pretty good I seem to remember, signing him and John Collins that summer looked like really good business, shame he was such a Primadonna who thought Everton beneath his talents (Collins that is!). Wish Dacourt had stayed longer.
Played for Italian Everton Roma too, for a few years.

The clubs weren’t ready for the overseas players quite then if they weren’t a first season success. Now it’s accepted that it will take a season of adjustment before foreign players get going. Both Materazzi and Dacourt probably fell foul to this and a spiralling Everton entering the turbulent Johnson days, but both players went on to have very good careers. Right players, wrong time.
