Old Photos Of Where You Live

West Derby station in Liverpool opened in 1879 on the Cheshire Lines Railway’s North Liverpool Extension. The brick station spanned Mill Lane with a two-arch bridge built for potential expansion. It featured waiting rooms, ramps to the platforms and a nearby goods yard, and by the 1890s handled frequent services to Liverpool Central, Southport and Manchester, with extra trains for Aintree race days. The station closed to passengers in November 1960 and shut entirely five years later. Freight services continued to run through the site until 1975, and the tracks were removed in early 1979 -

Joey, The Rocket and Childwall Five Ways are two different places. The Rocket is at the start of the M62 in Broadgreen, you are right there used to be a Rocket garage there, and Childwall Five Ways is about a mile away along Queens Drive going towards Allerton.

My then girlfriend now wife had a holiday on the IOM in 1976 we sailed on that 4 hours I think it took us.

….it was 4 hours. i remember being on it in a proper storm as a young child, must’ve been around 1964. My Mum took me up on the top, there was literally rivers of vomit running down the deck. Never felt so ill in my life and have suffered from sea sickness since, even on a fair ground ride 😝

Been back there plenty, even to play football but have always flown. I’ll never do that boat journey again.
