Old Photos Of Where You Live

Pier Head, 1954 and 2026 -

Notice the transport which later became trams - My late father in laws did his motorbike driving test down there in the early 1960s - his motor bike when dropped in to the tram rail & he failed for deviating from the instructors directions :D he was fuming back then ... always went on about it when I was courtinghis daughter to become my beloved wife as i passed my motorbike test in Widnes first time ...

My bike test consisted of driving clockwise round the bombed out church 5 or 6 times, on the 3rd lap the examiner jumped out in front of me from in between the parked cars for my emergency stop...hardest part was keeping under 30mph

Carpet beds in Wavertree Botanic Gardens - sadly bombed in the war by the German Luftwaffe - moved to Calderstones Park in all its glory bombed by Derek Hatton in the late 1970s as the staff would not leave their plants to die for a two day strike ... so it got pulled down under alleged H&S laws .... by Derrick Hatton - who started as a Trade union activist in jeans & left the council in a mess in an Armani suit ....

I have a brochure in colour of when I often visited there - it was fantastic open to the general public - thanks Degsy = Not -
