….unveiled in 1924 to commemorate French soldiers buried in St John’s Gardens. Apparently between 1772 and 1803 many French prisoners were held in Liverpool and those who died in captivity are buried in the gardens behind St George’s Hall;
A mate of mine use to live in Winterburn Heights I was in the Derby arms a few times it was just by Liverpools Melwood training ground

The Royal Iris & Royal Daffodil were constructed in 1906 and both had significant roles in WW1 attack on Zeebrugge on 23rd April 1918. Both suffered considerable damage but managed to return home (because of this they were given their ‘Royal’ status).
